Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?
I've been informed that £30 is enough for food per week. Anything you spend above this will mainly be on nights out, so just do a lot of pre drinking, shots etc and you should have enough for at least a couple of nights out a week, depending on how smashed you want to be/ how much it takes for you to get to a reasonable level for a night out.

Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?Where are you living at, Manchester?....(Original post by slacker07906)
I have just learnt I am going to have just £55 per week to live on per week! I literally don't know how I am going to do it.
How much do you guys live on every week?
http://www.manchester.ac.uk/undergra...ost-of-living/
So they are estimating roughly £100 a week. But tbh you won't need to spend so much on books, just borrow from library and scan the pages you need. So thats some big savings there. No need to buy new clothes, a few odd pieces to bring life in to wardrobe is fine but I doubt you gonna be spending that much, transport for me personally is going to be pretty cheap its £5 return for me to go home.
Just got to cut down on general expenses so less printing and going out drinking/eating. Plus we got our overdrafts
I roughy have £60 a week so not much different to you and I think I will be fine as long as I don't eat out often. -

Re: Students- How much do you live on a week? Its pretty good and you are lucky cos they've made a new study facility so hopefully the library won't be as packed during exam times.
Can I just clear something up incase you didnt know...although it rains in Manchester a lot, we do have dry days and sunny days as well

Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?
about 50-60 pounds a week, sometimes even 40.
General things I abide by:
-budget.
-buy food in bulk.
-value all the way.
-try not to buy lunch at uni, it adds up.
-pre drink.
-NEVER go over the allotted amount of money for the week, no matter how tempting it may seem. -
Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?Well Lancaster is up north so I can't imagine it being much different to Manchester in terms of expenses. Honestly mate, I've commuted for two years and finally living out in final year but I'm not that worried. You have an overdraft and frankly some of the costs they've said are overestimated, do you really think you will spend £150 on books each sem? trust me don't do this, buy just for your biggest modules and scan the crap out of everything else.(Original post by slacker07906)
By the way, I am going Lancaster! -
Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?maybe because they've got rich parents, or work part time as most do(Original post by slacker07906)
God, where do people get the money from to live off £100 a week?
Really worried as to how I am going to cope tbh.

Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?Haha, I'm prepared, in fact, I'm not even planing much for uni, or even that excited because I seriously do not know if I've got in :/ Do you know how Manchester might be this year application wise? In fact, it's probably pointless asking. But if I get in, I reckon I'll have the best three years of my life there(Original post by Luxray)

Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?Depends on your course, Manchester is becoming more competitive, my course used to be ABB when I applied, then they bumped it to AAB. What year are you in? Are you applying for next year? I think for a lot of people in Manchester uni, as long as your personal statement was decent (1/3 why you want to do the certain course there and 2/3 why you are a well rounded person) along with the right predicted grades. You can get an offer. They care a lot about predicted grades.(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)

Its a competitive uni, I know a guy who had an offer to study Maths at manc, he missed out by a grade so they rejected him on results day but they were really nice and offered him an entry into Law! So I think the uni does try its best to allocate people and get people in.
Manchester is a great city and the university is so diverse which I like. -
Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?whaaaaat!(Original post by ilovecatsforlife)
Or...get the full grant and maintenance loan. I'll get £7,125, giving me plenty to spend, although I intend on saving a lot and getting a part time job.
my parents are low income but it works out that I only get about 6k from student finance + 1k from uni. Maybe its cos I'm the cohort who pay the 3.5k tuition fees, do you pay 9k tution fees?Last edited by Luxray; 19-07-2012 at 02:20. -

I havent done budgeting yet, wouldnt know where to begin.
I know ill have just over 2 grand to spend until january, but im sure around half of that will go to accommodation alone, leaving me with actually just a grand to spend until january. -
Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?Sorry I didn't make myself very clear. I have an ABB offer for Modern History with Economics to start this September but feel so nervous about whether I made it or not. Wow, Maths to Law :O that's so different, completely changing a career path. Lets hope I got in ahha(Original post by Luxray)

Re: Students- How much do you live on a week?Yeah it could be to do with different cohorts. On top of my 7k from SFE I'd also get 1k cash and 2k off accom in year 1 and 2.5k cash in subsequent years from UoM(Original post by Luxray)

And i chose derby who are not giving out any bursaries over manchester haha maybe im not that intelligent after all lol owell being skint is part of being a student. Take up a martial art and steal drinks off the bums outside the local shop. Or hire a police outfit and seize drink of teenagers drinking in the street. Best not tell you all my plans haha
