Practical assessments in university
Hi,
I just wanted to ask whether good practical assessments can really help to boost up your grades in university for example in courses like pharmacy and optometry in comparison to other degrees with less practical assessments like accountancy..i have applied for a foundation degree and recently got an email from the university saying i must achieve 75% or higher in the foundations years to progress onto the Bsc .. any help appreciated
thank you

Re: Practical assessments in universityWell, like anything, if you do the practicals well, you get better grades, although these aren't always as straightforward as written exams/assignments. They draw on a whole different set of knowledge and applying it is harder than you think. What course are you planning to study after your foundation degree? If we knew that, you might get more course-specific answers.

Re: Practical assessments in universityI was just thinking, I can't remember posting in a thread about practical assessments...(Original post by PhoenixFortune)
TheSownRose can give you some advice, she's the most active Optometry TSR user I am aware of.

It all depends on how the university run the practical assessment and how much weighting they give it.(Original post by Angel123)

I did optometry at Anglia Ruskin, and whilst we had practical exams and not being able to do a thing would not have been good, we were also assessed on how much we knew of the theory and they didn't always have that much effect on the overall grade. -

@TheSownRose
Any advise on what step i should take i'm just really hoping i get the grades to do BSc Optometry at City University and don't have to go through the foundation route as there is not guarantee i will progress onto the 2nd year of optometry and on the email it said "there is no progression route to 1st year optometry" so i am really confused atm...Also Aston is launching an accelerated BSc programme for FBDO (Fellow of British Dispensing Opticians) holders..does that mean i have to be a registered dispensing optician or i can apply to this accelerated programme straight after the 2 yrs of foundation...thanks for the help
will contact the universities just to make sure..
