probably because if i ever had to buy something size 14.... i would... i don't even know... that would be sooo depressing and horrible....

edit - wow some people are oversensative... to clear it up i do not think size 14, in general, is fat... my TALL friend is size 14 and she is thinner than me... for most people it is normal. however with the way my body is, if i were size 14, then that would mean i would be fat.
Height has nothing to do with clothes size. A 6ft size 14 has the same measurements as a 5ft size 14. You wouldn't be any larger than you're size 14 friend if you were also size 14.

EDIT: Could someone please explain why they disagree? This is a fact, there is no argument here.

I'm the opposite I always buy clothes that are too big for me. I always think I'm a size 12/14 on top and my mum always pulls me up for it saying I should be buying more 10/12 as the baggier clothes makes me look bigger than I am.
I think I do this a bit- I'm SO scared of showing any lumpy bits I tend to buy things a bit bigger to cover it all up and my mum'll be like "c'mon, you could have bought a 10 in that".

I agree, I've heard so many overweight girls say that they are only a size 10 or a 12. No wonder shops cash in so much on vanity sizing.

Your friend was probably just being tactful/complimentary...you dont want to say "oh, you've lost so much weight, are you a 12 now?" when there's so much media hoo-hah about how being over a 10 is "fat" and 8 is "ideal".

The whole time reading through this thread, all I could see in my mind's eye was this: http://www.collegehumor.com/picture/...uge-muffin-top

I don't think I could fit into those shorts, and I'm a size 8-10 and 5ft tall... Some women seriously don't seem to look in the mirror and realise how ridiculous a muffin top looks. If jeans give me a muffin top, I figure out that they're too small for me and throw them away (or give them to charity, etc.). It's all relative anyway, as in each shop the size varies, the number doesn't really mean much.

I have this too, people always underestimate my size. One of my friends once guessed I was a size 6, when at the time I was a size 10. Maybe its also slightly because they don't want to offend you by guessing a size or weight that is larger than you actually are?
I do also have a friend who insists she's a size 8 (same as me) when she must be about twice my size, and then she complains that her clothes are too tight. I've never been able to bring myself to say anything to her though...

I know exactly what you mean - I would never tash on with someone who wore size 14 clothes, they may be nice girls, I wouldn't know, but doing any thought of getting with one of them is simply disgusting.

I think girls who do that are just trying to convince themselves that they're a lot skinnier than they actually are.

I'm the opposite, I overestimate my size, my mom and boyfriend were shocked to find out how distorted my body image is. It shows in the clothes I buy, I always get two sizes up because I worry anything smaller won't fit; as a result I'm overloaded with baggy clothes

It looks soo bad when people try and cram themselves into clothes which are too small, it can even make the skiniest of people look fat! It shouldn't be about what clothes size you are, it should be about how you look in your clothes. If you wear good fitting clothes you will look good in them

It's the whole schtick of 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should'. Applies to a lot of things, really

I underestimated my size for like a year. I was a size 14 (and I'm really short) but SOMEHOW I thought I looked thin in the mirror
Anyway, then I did a show and was really excited to see the professional photos from the tech in the programme. Then I saw myself. Fat, gross, omg I looked like Susan Boyle BEFORE her makeover. I vowed right there and then to become fabulous.

    Now I a size 8

I think the real reason why she underestimated was to avoid the awkward embarasment and offence caused had she overestimated your size

She probably underestimated to be polite! It's sooooooo awkward and rude to guess someone's size as way larger than they actually are - it's like saying they're fat.

    It's so annoying!
My friends always think I must be smaller than a size 12, and I'm just not - size 10 clothes are generally tight and unflattering. (I do have the problem though of having small boobs, which apparently just don't work in many size 12 tops - shoppings a b*tch at times ).
But yeah and I have a friend who's basically the same height and size as me (although with bigger boobs) and she wears size 8 jeans I hate to be mean but it just doesn't look good, muffin top and whatnot. If she wore 2 sizes higher, she'd look amazing!

Yes! I have a friend who probably has similar measurements to me but she dresses in small stuff, so her shirt buttons are always pulling etc.
I'm too far the other way for lots of things, so I have lots of too-baggy clothes

That's what I was thinking. Well, after I finished thinking "is that a skirt, or some shorts? No, wait, those are definitely jean shorts. How did she get those on?" How do you walk when wearing something that tight, and not realise that you need several sizes up?
There's at least one more photo of her on that site. Gruesome.
