RAF Uni Scholarships/Bursarys
Hey all,
Really want to be an RAF Pilot but will be going to Uni this year, intend to try and joing my UAS but even this doesnt gaurentee entry into RAF afterwards, what I want to know is, can I get a scholorship or bursary to complete my degree that then requires I join the RAF afterwards? If so how, and would it mean I would definately be accepted onto Pilot training after graduation? -

Re: RAF Uni Scholarships/BursarysNothing is ever guaranteed. Going to the AFCO and beginning the sponsorship procedure would be a good step though, and if that's a no go at the moment [which it might well be] then get to uni and get on with your degree, trying to join the UAS along the way.(Original post by HigginsJiggins)

Remember that there's sod all cash in the MoD these days and they're very unlikely to give some of it away to people who are mad keen on joining up regardless. You're lucky in the sense that by the time you finish uni they - should - be recruiting pilots again, but don't forget that there'll be a huge rush and thousands of applicants when it does open up. In the meantime, do everything you can to make yourself a better candidate. -
Re: RAF Uni Scholarships/BursarysGo to your AFCO to enquire then, if you're too early they'll tell you when to come back.(Original post by HigginsJiggins)
Hey Guys, thanks for the help, I have seen that info before but all the links just take me round in circles, nowhere actually says if/when/how to apply?
I went through RAF uni bursary selection while I was in Upper Sixth, but people can apply at differing times. -
Re: RAF Uni Scholarships/BursarysAs long as it hasn't changed since I did it, it's the same as if you were applying for standard entry. Therefore:(Original post by HigginsJiggins)
Emailed them and apparently the application process starts 1st August, any idea what that process is?
Initial AFCO enquiry -> P2 Pres/station visits -> Filter interview -> OASC
I believe that since I went through selection OASC has been split into two, where you do the aptitude testing on a separate visit. I'll leave it to you to research that! -
Re: RAF Uni Scholarships/BursarysUnderstandable, best bet is to join the UAS then?(Original post by RAF-Recruiter)
Unfortunately, pilot is one of the few branches the RAF do NOT offer sponsorship for any more. (No reason to offer financial sponsorship to a branch which is already massively over subscribed.)

Re: RAF Uni Scholarships/BursarysYes and no. You can get in without the UAS. Remember the UAS isn't automatic. You have to apply, it's selective. It's not like other uni socs that you can just turn up to and be guaranteed a slot. My old UAS was among the smaller in the country, but had about 55-60 members. Each year we'd get well over 500 applicants for around 20-30 slots.(Original post by HigginsJiggins)
Understandable, best bet is to join the UAS then?
