First Interview - E&Y and PWC
I've got my first graduate interviews coming up for audit at both E&Y and PWC next week. E&Y will be a face to face interview, whilst PWC is going to be via telephone.

I just wondered whether the interviews are going to be the same and what sorts of topics they'll cover. This is my first accountancy graduate interview, so I'm quite nervous.

    Thanks

Do any of these firms require commercial awareness for the first interview?

PwC asked me a couple of commercial questions in my telephone interview - a piece of business in the news and then how I thought the news was going to impact the companies.

Is it worth me taking along my CV?

    No.
So it will just be an hour interview, with the interviewer reading from a list of questions?

I would have a look at Wiki Jobs, they have a fairly comprehensive interview guide for both firms.

It's not literally a list. Their questions depend on your answers and your CV.

Does anyone know roughly how long it takes after the PWC interview for them to respond?

I had mine last week and I've still not heard back

If you haven't heard back within an hour you won't have got the job.

How long is a piece of string? It's all variable. There's no set time. You'll know when you know, just be patient.

Lol read the second half of his message

I miss the job chase, doing telephone interviews and waiting eagerly to see if I made it to an assessment centre. Looking back, those were exciting times!

Lol, might as well enjoy it, probably the best part of a job is getting the offer.

Getting the offer is great. I was on a bus when I got the phone call. First thing I did was phone my mom shouting down the phone. Bus was packed, but I didn't care.

The daily struggle with rejection after rejection, constantly having to pick myself up and try again, is something else entirely. Suffering is character building. Doesn't make it enjoyable though.

Yeah,I have had loads of rejections, like how many did you apply for approximately? I guess those that get the 1st job app they do can't appreciate the rejections...

Don't you get a thrill every time your phone rings though when you're job hunting? The worst thing (I use worst loosely) is when you land two jobs and you don't know which to pick

It's thrilling when it's a job offer, heart-breaking when it's something you've worked hard for and been rejected yet again. Last year I spent a good hour applying to UBS and was rejected within 10 minutes. I was also rejected by IG Group for being late to my final interview due to some **** jumping in front of a train before mine. Can't say I found those moments enjoyable tbh.

A good hour? I applied for one job and nailed it but must have spent 20+ hours on the app and interview prep.
