Laptop for maths at uni and photoshop
I am starting maths at uni this october and need a laptop. Other than general stuff (internet, email, word) I will be putting photoshop cs6 on it, no games and may need to put maths software such as maple on it, but I'm not entirely sure.
I want at least 4GB ram and 500GB hard drive and it has to have a dvd drive, less sure about all the other specifications, but it has to be able to easily handle photoshop and multiple programs running. Screen size maybe around 13"-15.6".
My parents will pay around £450 and I pay any extra. What would laptops would you suggest or minimum requirements I should look for (eg. types of graphics cards). Any help much appreciated

For maths, I find that I just need to handle lots of PDF's at once, and be able to program (things like Java) and to typeset things on LaTeX.
Most laptops should be absolutely fine with this.
I have a relatively cheap Toshiba Satellite (about £350), and it's absolutely fine

As your doing editing, and on a budget.............than a i5 with about 6gb+ should be more than capable.
And probably a basic dedicated graphics card for the editing............but if your not gaming than you don't need one.
i7 easily handles photoshop, etc but it's out of your price range, next best thing is an i5 which is still quite fast.

Sorry, I'm not entirely sure what that is, would there be specific names to look for. And I could pay more if it's useful to have it.

You got 2 types you have integrated which HD 3000, HD 4000...........the dedicated ones will be clear it'll state something completely different with Nvdia/Amd or tell you its dedicated. They are better for editing.

When you see a laptop you like, look for your card on this list. It goes in order of best to worst from top to bottom. I think for photo editing, anything up to class 3 should be good. But try to buy a class two or higher end 3 because in 2-3 years time the technology will probably change.
