Re: Which University below would you choose if you were me? Please someone help me! ;Speaking for over 7 billion people is a bit much isnt it? they have just as much access to the UK's league tables as we do and can check it up and i didnt say UoT wasnt better than St Andrews i said you cannot bit an entire study of topic which has been around since time immemorial as essentually rubbish...(Original post by poohat)
Noone outside the UK would disagree, and UK people tend to overrate their own universities. Toronto is the best university in Canada and realistically is around the same level as UCL/Imperial. St Andrews isnt even top 5 in the UK.

Re: Which University below would you choose if you were me? Please someone help me! ;Awesome! I love the buildings in HK Island! Have you thought about HKU? Did you apply there? Haha better air lol! Ohh cool so you are a British citizen too? Btw did you go to ESF school? Have you heard of Royal Plaza hotel? Well since i have family there aunties etc we went to visit them and shopping lol :P(Original post by gbrsyjoseph)
Magenta: sure I live in HK Island! Ive been to Toronto and to me it's a bigger Hong Kong (of course, with less high rise buildings and more pent houses; with better air and snow :P) only... I haven't been to Scotland not
St Andrews, but ive once been to London and Portsmoth in the UK sea cadet international summer camp 2007... That's when I fell in love with the British culture (provided that I'm actually a British national (overseas) also lol)
There's quite a lot of hotels in Mong Kok actually so :P what have you done in HK? Go to the beaches or shopping, maybe?

Astronomical: thanks for ur advice! Yea prince will he's cool lol study history of arts then geography there!(Original post by Astronomical)
If you can cope with everyone saying "Oh, wow, that's where Prince William went!" every time you mention you go to St Andrews, then that's where I'd probably go.
Having said that, I don't know much about the Toronto University or Canada for that matter so it may not be the best decision. St Andrews is quite prestigious though (due, as I mentioned, to the links with the Royal Family, and to being rather old).
Also, if you do go to St Andrews you could try and get onto one of the Berkley, University of California, or UCLA exchange scheme if you wanted and spend a year in California.
Oh yea sounds cool lol for the exchange

That's why I'm begging for a fairer and more trusted ranking system/reference! Anyone can help on this? :0

I'm not a British citizen, I'm only classified as an overseas national! What do you mean by ESF school?! English speaking school? Yea royal plaza, quite a good one here in HK!
So, are u a Chinese or a Hongkonger? (of mainland/Hongkong ancestry?)
Views are nice, but I just hate the poor air quality here and all those crowded street... Full of chinese mainlanders (uncivilised)!
Nah still thinking, being advised by my local schoolmates that my results are only enough to try Durham! (v little chance entering LSE)

Re: Which University below would you choose if you were me? Please someone help me! ;Sorry typo. I meant to say "in my opinion, clearing is for under-performers/those who did not meet their offers/those who have no offers. This is not the case for you."(Original post by gbrsyjoseph)
Well it's not that under performed I think lol... Some of my friends got offers from UCL (law!) which is not high: even I'm qualified for his conditional offer!
Scottish degrees need 4 years as well. But it's name comes as "Master of Arts (hons) history and intl relations" which is much cool than a BA lol

I think you were thinking about Adjustment?
I don't think you should let the length of study be a factor in what you want to study.
Yes the scottish degree sounds a lot better. Ultimately its your choice. You could have a look at the university rankings and websites and see which uni you prefer. -

So my dad originally HK ( we have family in New Territories) and my mum Shenzhen so very close to HK. I personally prefer HK more than china haha! Yet i was born in UK lol
Yeah theres so many people in HK! My auntie lives in Tseung Kwan O and on floor 20 so air is quite good up there
True, there's lots of mainlanders in HK now and even on TVB news says all the woman are going to HK to have their children :O
From what ive heard Durham and LSE are both good but what about HKU? Have they replied to you? Btw whats the HK education system like? Im not too familiar with it :/ -

Re: Which University below would you choose if you were me? Please someone help me! ;
As others have said, bear in mind the very different environments you would find yourself in. St Andrews is a very small place, very much dominated by the university, and from what I gather can be a bit 'dead' outside of term time. If you think you'd like that sleepy charm, with not a huge amount of facilities (in terms of entertainment etc) then go for it.
On the other hand Toronto is a huge, cosmopolitan city, with all the amenities and facilities that brings. You might be more used to this kind of lifestyle, having lived in HK.
So just bear this in mind: you will be studying in this place for 4 years (Scottish degrees are 4 years), so make sure you like it.
(Btw: St Andrews has one of the top IR departments in the UK, and possibly the world. Their history department is also good from what I hear).
