Just a note on what jelly1000 said about her flat, and I think a point that could stand being made generally:
Not getting on with flatmates is not uncommon, nor does it need to be a big problem.

When you move in to your flat you are essentially being put with a social group of 7-11 others randomly selected from the roughly 3000 freshers starting that year. You may find that you have been assigned people who will become your best friends, and if so, brilliant. You may find that for whatever reason, these are people you aren't going to be friends with (this happened to me). It really doesn't matter and isn't something you should worry about.

Go to freshers events with them, but after that you may find that people on your course or people in societies become your friends.
I can honestly say that of the 12 in my flat last year, there is one who I would care to see again, but I have ended up with an amazing group of friends through other routes and I can't wait to get back and see them again.

The reason I have posted this is that early on I was really worried about not getting on with my flatmates and was getting pretty depressed over it, so hopefully if anyone who reads this has a similar experience, I can save them the pointless stress I went through.

[/weird rant that nobody asked for or needed.]
Thank you! That's made me feel better - hopefully I'll get on with my flatmates but if not it seems I can easily find other people to make friends with! And haha, it wasn't a weird rant, thank you!! x

Thanks, but I have a horrid feeling about results day, just don't think I've got the grades! I just want to go to UEA so much, fell in love with it when I visited and feel it's the perfect uni for me!

Ah ok... well I hope I get on with my flatmates! But as you said if I don't it's not the end of the world cos of the huge variety of people in clubs etc. and on your course, so hopefully I'll be fine even if I don't get on with them, especially as I have quite a wide range of interests so will hopefully be joining lots of different societies!

Also, can you tell me more about Freshers' Week? Like, what exactly happens? Apart from all the stuff at night haha, what do you actually do in the day? And is it two weeks for UEA? Thanks! x
Its only one week at UEA. You'll be given a timetable for that week nearer the time which will have where you need to be at what time. This will include when you need to register, and what introductory talks you have e.g. welcome to the school and possibly the chance to meet your personal stutor. As an Arts student it should only take up a few hours of your time leaving you plenty to chill in the kitchen getting you know your flatmates or go into town or the pub with them. Then there is the Freshers fair, Societies Fair and Sports Fair which are on on certain days and your free to go to when you arent needed elsewhere.

Each costs about £3 to join and for sports you need insurance.
Just to point out that the £3 is for societies. Sports clubs are usually 15-30 and then there's £30 insurance as well (although you only need to buy this once a year and it covers all sports).

International Relations. Do you have an offer yet or are you about to apply? And Freshers week was pretty good- I can't say amazing but that was more to do with my flat than anything else. I especially loved the 90's night at the Waterfront in town and the big bash on the Saturday when Scott Mills came on to do a DJ set.
Omg by the 90s night I was shattered, but it was really good. Still dunno how I survived staying up until 2am every night then getting up for 9 am trips everyday that week. so weird that freshers happened only a year ago, feels like a lifetime ago, especially as you knew completely different people by the end of the year. Went past the village yesterday on the coach and it's bittersweet that I'll never be there again.
Hope Zane Lowe is playing again this year, because that night was fantastic. Do you remember that man who kept regurgitating things on the Scott Mills night? So disgusting!

Yeah, that last bit is a way more concise way to get across what took me 250 words. Still, I've got to use what the 3000 word essay I had to do last year taught me, and that is to never say in 20 words what can be shamelessly padded to 200. Another important piece of University advice.
amen...until you're past your 10% and wondering wtf you can remove!
Completely agree with the flatmate thing too.

If anyone is wondering what's happening during the Freshers week (event wise) there's info on here; http://www.ueaticketbookings.co.uk/e...ault.aspx?v=26

Zane Lowe and the Chase & Status Dj set look like good fun

Are there things happening during the days of Freshers week?

Thanks It's good that there's things happening during the day. Can't wait to have the Introductory lectures.

I'm thinking of taking my bike up to UEA to get me around but it'll be a hassle to get it in the car! Does UEA have some kind of bike rental including bike locks at all?

I'm not a bike rider so I can't be 100% sure but I have seen a bike shop, I don't know if they rent bikes as well but there must be somewhere. I should add though that the bus network is more than sufficient to get you from the uni into town and back especially if you want to go with friends.

Hopefully! I'll google it and see what I can find! lol.

Yeah the bus pass is a good idea actually, thanks. Costly in one payment but if used enough it's worth it

There are loads of bike parking spaces around campus and around and under all the main academic buildings. Can't actually think of any other place I've ever been to which has had so many places to park a bike! I brought my bike up for second year (very useful for quickly dashing to 9am lectures when you're off campus and running late). You may not need it in your first year as everything on campus is pretty self-contained, but if you want to zoom into Norwich and back, it might be a good idea.

Hope that helps, and I hope you have an awesome time at UEA!

Oh awesome! Yeah I've visited UEA a few times and the amount of bikes locked up is crazy haha. Thanks for the help. Debating with myself whether or not to bring a bike. Definitely for the 2nd year like you did is a better way. I may just invest in a bus pass for the 1st year!

You can buy a second hand bike for between £50 and £100. I got a really good one for £80. There is also plenty of places you can park your bike, there is bike storage in all the on campus accommodation.
There is nowhere I'm aware of that you can rent a bike however, sorry.

umm... the su rules say that a soc and club MUST charge £3 but may charge more. most socs only charge the £3 but there are some that charge more and there is a provision for support group socs to wave the fee completely.
soc mart (a display of most of the societies) is on tuesday the 25th, a lot of the socs have a social that day too.
for a full list of societies and clubs go to http://www.ueastudent.com/socweb2
