Feeling Stupid
Just been looking through what people have been saying about what they believe they will be getting in their GCSE's and many believe that they will be leave with 7 or 8 A*'s.
I believe that, at most, I will leave with 4 A*'s, 3 A's, 1 B and 1 D (French). It's now got me thinking, would these grades be enough to get me to Uni. I'm doing A-levels and I'm expected to get A*AA but I have been told that Uni go on your GCSE as well as your A-levels.
Anyone information would be great. -
Re: Feeling Stupid
Wow if you're expected to get A*AA then you must be incredibly bright, regardless of your GCSE grades. Unis only really want something that they can use to prove that you're remotely intellectual, since GCSEs are very basic. If you do well in the three subjects that you'll take for A level (and hopefully hit your predictions) then the only thing that is out of your rech would be medicine at Oxbridge, which i hope isn't what you wanted to do..

Ollie, I'm actually hoping to go to LJMU (Liverpool's Uni) and I will either be doing medicine or teaching. So should my grades be good enough to get me into my Uni of choice? -

Thanks to both of you.

What A levels were you thinking to take, and what are your predicted grades in Sciences and maths?
Edit: And English?

Re: Feeling StupidAt GCSE I'm actually taking separate science, and I'm predicted; biology - A, chemistry - A* and Physics A*. English is a B but if I'm lucky an A(Original post by OllieGCSEs)
I would says so

I already have my Maths GCSE as I did it early and I got an A*.
At A-level I will be doing Biology, Chemistry and Maths.Last edited by Fishfingers52; 20-07-2012 at 19:50. -
Re: Feeling StupidThank you(Original post by OllieGCSEs)
Maths chemistry and biology are the perfect 3 for medicine, and A/A* grades with these subjects at GCSE will show Unis that you're already capable, and i assume you'll get a pass in English so i don't understand this:
What's your reasoning, Veracocha?
you have really boosted my confidence about going to Uni, you have been a great help

Re: Feeling StupidSubstandard grades, OllieGCSEs.(Original post by OllieGCSEs)
What's your reasoning, Veracocha?
Most courses require sixteen A*s at the very least these days. It's a cruel and competitive world. -

Re: Feeling StupidWHAT?? You are mistaken! A fraction of a fraction of people take more than 14/15 GCSEs and actually Oxbridge will look at your application if you have 8-9 A*s, 16 is ridiculous! Outside of Oxbridge then as long as you have some A*s at GCSE, you can get in with good A levels(Original post by veracocha)

Re: Feeling StupidI believe that you are mistaken as only the top 1% of students will receive an A* per subject, and many students will not take more than 13 subjects.(Original post by veracocha)

Re: Feeling Stupid
Yeah your GCSE's are important. I was looking at the university of Manchester and its courses and for one of their philosophy courses for example, they still wanted a grade C for english language, so your GCSE's do matter even at university level. Cheer up you can REtake your GCSE's

I know that I have passed all the GCSE's apart from French at least at a grade B so that should help me, am I right?(Original post by 123maz)

But your A level results look pretty good anyway so dont worry about it xLast edited by 123maz; 20-07-2012 at 22:27. Reason: sp -
Re: Feeling StupidThanks, and I would be unable to retake French unless I moved schools as my teacher didn't really like me as I got her put on a warning for treating half the class unfairly.(Original post by 123maz)
