How have such people managed to make it this far?
I was reading the trivia section on imdb for The Shawshank Redemption and found this gem:
"The American Humane Association monitored the filming of scenes involving Brooks' crow. During the scene where he fed it a maggot, the AHA objected on the grounds that it was cruel to the maggot, and required that they use a maggot that had died from natural causes. One was found, and the scene was filmed."
Why do humans have to try and "save" everything? There was a story about a man contracting the bubonic plague as a result of taking a mouse from the mouth of a cat.
Nature is able to regulate itself without humans feeling the need to interfere - and probably causing more damage in the process. -
Re: How have such people managed to make it this far?Humans are not like any other animal. They have interferred too much in the planet, and have too much power over the fate of every other organism. They also have the cognitive ability to not be ruled by natural instinct. Thus, humans must consider their actions carefully, and because they have interferred and had such a massive, permanent impact on nature, I feel, that they are obligated to ensure that their actions do not have negative implications. Nature is allowed to take its course, but killing the maggot was not part of nature, and was not part of scientific research. It didn't need to die to make the film, and just because it's a maggot, it doesn't make killing it for a film any less of a bad act than killing a whale or a rhino for a film.(Original post by Formerly Helpful_C)

Re: How have such people managed to make it this far? It's a crow eating a maggot. It has probably happened about a billion times and there is no real reduction in any suffering that matters to anyone.(Original post by miser)
An organisation tries to reduce the suffering in the world and you complain about it?
It is absurd that people are paid to stop crows from eating live maggots. -
Re: How have such people managed to make it this far?If I were the maggot, I wouldn't really care. I doubt I would have the cognitive ability to care.(Original post by QStah)
How would YOU feel if YOU was that maggot huh ?
