Whats the life like in Canterbury and some others questions
Hello,Im about to study in university of Kent.Firstly I thought Kent was the city but then found out that Canterbury is the city and only has about 40.000 population from the 1.500.000 total of Kent and I was dissapointed for a while. So I'd like to know whether there are for example many stores, bars,or fitness centers and generally If student life is worth there Or If I should go to another town. The town I'm living in has like 60.000 people and I hope Canterbury is not as bad as this one.By the way Im not living in the UK yet.

Re: Whats the life like in Canterbury and some others questionsI don’t think you focus too much on the resident population size. It’s the largest shopping and leisure centre for East Kent, and the nearby towns like Whitstable and Herne Bay. It also attracts a lot of tourists, so it has all the infrastructure that goes with that – lots of pubs, cafes and restaurants and so on. And of course it has 30,000 students for half of the year, which almost doubles the population! And the fact that there are so many students and tourists means that it is a lot more cosmopolitan than most towns of its size.(Original post by petrosp70)

Having said that, it’s clearly nothing like living in a 1 Million + population city – if you really like big cities than Canterbury is not for you. London is close by, but you’re probably not realistically going to be heading up there all the time.
I think it’s a pretty great place to be as a student though – most of your friends are likely to be other students, and most of you social life will be dominated by student activities. Because Canterbury is so small, you will be living within walking distance of most of the people you know, and it kind of feels as though the whole town is a big student campus.
