A 17-year-old upstate New York girl told police her angry father gave her an ultimatum early Friday: She could kill him or he'd kill her then himself.

"He said that he was going to kill us both or I was going to have to kill him," she told police in the statement released Friday. "I said that I don't want to. He was like, then I'm going to kill you right now."

In her statement to police, Trinity Copeland said her father was angry because she used his ATM card to ring up charges of $122 and $32. She said he'd been drinking beer when the confrontation happened about 3 a.m. Friday.

yes I mean she could have shot him in the leg and called for help. but then she might have panicked. Thing is she looks quite baby faced and innocent. :/

It would make more sense but I suppose, under the circumstances, she was acting a bit irrational. That's what really threw me, she looks like she does not have the capability to do what she did

and i don't understand why her dad would want to die over what 200 pounds/dollars!? he must have been depressed.

It just sounds too improbable; the only way it would sound probable if the dad had some sort of mental/emotional problem

or maybe she is a psychopath and .... i don't have anything else. i can't make sense of this. it feels like huge chunks of the story are missing.

This is such a strange but sad story. The thing is there is no hidden camera or CCTV or anything to show everything that happened or more info we could definitely need for the story to make sense.

She's probably mental and got angry and killed him then came up with some story.

If you were in that situation - you have the gun, he is unarmed and lying down. You could shoot him in the feet to stop him jumping you to get the gun. Then run out of there. You wouldn't actually have to blast his brains out. But I guess rational thought is pretty difficult in such situations.

Yeah shes definitely lying, he was probably abusive towards her and she snapped and went mad on him.

As far as I read it in the first comment, it was a precipitate action in my opinion.
If her father has drunken too much beer and was not in his right senses, its very likely that it was not a serious threat. But who knows?
