Drinking alcohol when training for a marathon
I am training to do a marathon in a few months and just wondered what people thought about effects of alcohol on training regimes. At the moment, I drink a couple of beers a few nights a week, and have a big binge drinking night out at least once a week.
I am thinking about cutting alcohol out completely whilst training if it really does have benefits. -
Re: Drinking alcohol when training for a marathonMind is blown at this. If you haven't figured this out by now I really hope you have prepared. A marathon isn't something you give 2 months to train for. People dedicate 6-12 months training for marathons.(Original post by Zacho)

By all means go on and continue binge drinking.

Re: Drinking alcohol when training for a marathonYes stopping drinking will certainly have great benefits - you're body is held back quite a bit from drinking.(Original post by Zacho)

Re: Drinking alcohol when training for a marathonIf you're doing a binge once a week, make sure you're doing it the day before your rest day, and certainly not the day before your long run. You have to make sure each training session is of good quality, which it wont be if you're hungover. Try and cut back on the heavy sessions though.(Original post by Zacho)

Re: Drinking alcohol when training for a marathon
I'd cut the binge while training, having a couple of drinks in the week is honestly fine, you're healthier having a couple I think than being completely tee-total but you shouldn't be waking up hungover or anything on a regular basis if you're also training.
