    Dilemma! A level choices help!
HI guys i want to go to uni and go to one of the "big fours" which are the worlds largest accountancy firms. at the moment i have picked to do maths, chemistry and geography and want to pick one more. its either between economics or accountancy. i have heard accountancy is a "soft" subject. i really want to go to oxbridge and i know i can if i work hard enough. i really dont want to do economics as its essay based especially for A2. please help. what seems better (i really cba to do economics!). if i do choose accountancy over economics will it look REALLY bad in terms of oxbridge?

It won't look really bad, you can have a "softer" subject as a fourth choice - your other three are very strong choices. To be entirely honest with you though, economics might be better.

I think that if you want a strong chance of getting into Oxbridge I'd take economics, or perhaps physics - just something that is a hard/core subject that highlights your mathematical skills.

if you plan on carrying it over for A2 then do Economics, maybe even physics or further maths.

Maybe not further Maths as some universities regard Maths and further Maths as one A level I you do both

Definitely Economics - even that is still seen as less of an "intellectual" subject than others, but the essay component will show you can write articulately, structure an argument, analyse etc. and as a subject it's more highly regarded than Accountancy. If you want to work at an accountancy firm you should do Maths at uni, which if you're applying to Oxbridge means taking Maths and Further Maths A-level, but I've heard Warwick is better for Maths so that could be worth looking into.

Not true - universities see these as 2 qualifications.

I would definitely pick Economics and probably only do it for AS. Accountancy is badly regarded, this list(from a Cambridge college) puts it on a par with critical thinking and general studies: http://www.trin.cam.ac.uk/index.php?pageid=604

Ultimately go for something you'll enjoy and if you really hate economics and love accountancy, go for that, probably better to get an A* in accountancy rather than a lower grade in economics.
