    Laptop to Tv help!
Hi so i'm wanting to connect my netbook to the tv.

My netbook has a VGA output and the tv has a HDMI output so i'm thinking of getting these and want to check if it'll work:

    VGA Adaptor

PC Laptop to HD LCD LED Plasma TV 15 pin VGA with Jack Audio Cable 3m

But i'm wondering whether using a vga with audio jack plugged into an hdmi adaptor will work for audio and whether I should just buy an audio jack separately.

    Thanks!

either should be fine....not too sure about the audio have a look at the reviews.
plus the 2nd is vga to vga I believe.

edit: the first one is vga to hdmi, my bad, so you can use that and connect the rest up using a vga and vga cable

It won't work, it's HDMI to VGA not the other way round.

    Cmon Iqbal, you're slipping

That's unlikely to work, VGA and HDMI are not compatible so you need an expensive converter whick is likely to need a power supply and cost more than that.

Does your tv not have a vga input you can use ?

Firstly i presume you meant that your tv has a hdmi input not output. As others have said neither will work and nor will any other cheap cable/adapter. Your problem is VGA is an analog signal and HDMI is digital. Are you sure your tv doesn't have a vga input? what other inputs does your tv have?

You can buy an active VGA to HDMI adapter, but a decent one might set you back quite a bit. Don't most HDTVs have a VGA input?

Sadly this tv doesn't have a VGA input. I looked at what you've all said and think I understand now. And that adapter is for a hdmi input to vga output and so I want a vga input to hdmi output. So I found a different adapter which was a bit more expensive but does the job I want.

Neet® - VGA + Audio to HDMI Converter - Supports 1080p Full HD - Connect PC Computer SVGA video + R/L Audio to HDMI monitor or HDTV

So I think that should work?

Should be fine, the only thing you would need ofcourse is normal cables to connect to and from the box (3.5mm -> 3.5mm; vga -> vga; hdmi -> hdmi).

Should do the job and that's about the price I was expecting. You might find something cheaper on eBay but then you're taking the eBay risk and no doubt it'll be delivered from China so it'll take a few weeks to arrive.

As someone else has suggested and depending on what you want to do it may be possible to stream video via something else. It might also be possible to use some other connection (SVHS / Composite) to connect your laptop but it's likely to be much lower quality (possibly acceptable for films but not good for presentations)
