Poem of a Nightwalker
-Work in progess-
Just me and the birds
The whirling smoke tingles the edges of my tongue, the sweet, the sour and the bitter.
Just me and the birds.
The sky past the nadir of light, but it returns, ascending across the sky.
4:00AM and it's just me and the birds.
Just me and the birds
5:00AM, distant echoes of weary travelers, desperate to complete untold journeys through this foreign world. The bohemian wanderers retreat.
Just me and the birds
6:00AM. It has begun, soft humming, street lights interrupt, the birds persevere on, my wonder continues.
7:00AM. But all too soon, mechanical shudders, they arise. Eyes click open, yawning, they repeat their life again.
8:00AM Shouting, sneering, laughing, sneezing, cheering, showering, farting. Hair dryers drying, the masses arise to commandeer their world.
9:00AM. Me and the birds; we wonder what became of our paradise, where we were all to be heard, all old friends, individuals, no fear among us. We are still here; but we go unnoticed, like shadows in the dark, our latent beings like our desires, irrelevant to all, but relevance we give them. Society drapes us in its own garments.
Nobody listens to the birds anymore.
The explanation for this is I am basically a night owl. So I wrote a poem as to why I live for dawn, it is more a literary recreation of my experiences. Forgive me as I am tired.

Re: Poem of a Nightwalker
I think it's a wonderful poem, made even more wonderful because I can genuinely relate to it.
I love waiting for dawn, too; I live for the peaceful silence outside, and sometimes even go cycling just to be absorbed by it. It's thrilling to experience.
You've captured the calmness and serenity of dawn itself simply through the way you've structured your poem; as if it's a timeline, noting the big differences between the calm dawn and the chaotic day.Last edited by ConstantlyStressed; 22-07-2012 at 05:17. -

Great to have someone who can relate to it!
