What universities should I look at for English?
Hi, I've been really struggling to make a choice on universities for English. I'm predicted 4 A's at AS and got 8A*s and 3As for GCSE and I was thinking my 5 would be Cambridge, Warwick, Sussex, UEA and Lancaster but I was wondering whether this would be bad as all of them have very high entry requirements and in case I don't get it should I choose something lower?

    Thanks x

Are you confident that you'll make the grades?

I didn't apply to any courses below AAA because I knew I could make the grades. There's no point wasting choices with unis with lower entry requirements if you know you can make the higher ones.

Ifyou're not sure, wait until you get your AS results. That will tell you (a) how well you've done for the amount of work that you know you've done, and therefore will help you decide how well you can do at A2; and (b) how well you have to do next year, which if you get high As won't necessarily be too well.

    Hi
I'm doing English this year, and the way I chose was three AAA universities, one AAB university and an ABB university course. But then as the person said above, maybe wait until you get your AS grades to decide. If you get really good grades, you know that with a bit of hard work you can easily meet the AAA/A*AA criteria the unis you've chosen need. But wait until you know your AS, I think. I thought I'd get ABB at AS, but I got AAA- which instantly made me re evaluate the unis I was thinking of applying to.

But it's always good to look at prospectuses and websites- what modules interest you? what aren't you interested in? It's good to base your uni choices on that as well.

I also think it would be safe to have a lower offer course- for example Birmingham offers an AAB English course and Reading offer an A*BB. But it's all up to you You have really, really good GCSE's so I think with some hardwork you could easily apply to the unis you want like Lancaster, Cambridge etc.

    Good luck!
