AS Results!!!
Hi!
I have currently finish my AS levels. I am not sure if I am able to meet my minimum requirements for medicine. I am a bit worried for my chemistry. Most likely, I would not achieve an A in it. I am taking Chemistry, Maths, Biology and AS English. I do not wish to take a gap year if possible. My first choice is Imperial if possible
I have not sit for the UKCAT yet. I still do not get how the resits work. Will I get an offer if I told them that I will be resitting my AS Chemistry in January? Is it possible? Do they give allowence to those who merely miss by one subject? Do they accept AS resits?
Thank you.

Re: AS Results!!!
Hi

Well, the AS results are not out yet so who knows what you will get! So don't panic, I would suggest making a plan A and plan B. The minimum requirements of medicine is AAB for some medicals schools and I am fairly sure that some school don't care much about your AS grades if you have UKCAT or BMAT or GCSE or A2 predicitions that look good enough. Please do tell me if I were wrong, but I think imperial looks at grades instead of modular UMS? So having a high A or low A in chemistry doesn't make a difference for application purpose. While in some schools like Cambridge is a different story. They like looking at UMS. So be wise and do your research in the application selection process of medical schools before you put down your UCAS choice. Personally I would say "go for it anway!" for schools like imperial. There's nothing to lose as long as you have security choices.
As for the resits, I think most medical schools accept them apart from a few. No worries, there are schools that are fairly flexible with the AS grades of the applicant. (e.g. From what I've heard, your personal statements weigh quite a lot for Bristol instead of grades.) -

Re: AS Results!!!Most medical schools do not mind you taking module resits as long as it's within the two years of A level, so it's absolutely fine to resit the AS modules in January. It won't really matter for Imperial because for them the single biggest factor influencing their decision to interview is the BMAT score. However some medical schools like Birmingham and Cambridge would need all As at AS so you should stay clear of them.(Original post by kai21)

Is it vital to do maths to study medicine at imperial because I have chosen biology, chemistry,Economics and History... Let's just say maths isn't a subject that I think I would necessarily get an A in....
This was posted from The Student Room's iPhone/iPad App
three A levels, including chemistry and/or biology and one science or mathematics subject. The three A levels must be undertaken in the same academic year.
one additional subject at AS level
if either chemistry or biology is offered alone at A level, then the other is required at AS level
It's hard to say for sure because the extract from their website above would indicate that you could get away with two sciences. Best option would be to contact the medical school to make sure. -
Re: AS Results!!!Thanks for the advice.. I think they just over complicate the requirements too much! they need to state the basic yes and no(Original post by myyrh)

Re: AS Results!!!
Just a word of advice! If you find that you get AAAB in your AS levels then do your research. e.g. I know someone for Bristol 2012 entry who did not secure an interview and the feedback was that they didn't meet the cut because they got a B in one of their AS levels. Also know someone who didn't apply to Birmingham because if your 3rd A level is in Psychology or sociology then they expect 4th AS to be an A grade. All the best for results day!

Re: AS Results!!!Yeah i know if i end up with a B in Chem it will be a matter of few UMS , so yeah it will suck! but to be honest i don't worry about it too much as there is no point, just enjoy for as long as you can! I am waiting for 15th Aug for the grade boundaries...Best of luck to you too!(Original post by kai21)
