An easy and flexible job would be at the odeon or one of the other cinemas. What are you studying?(Original post by LilLisa89)
Hey, I'm starting Uni in September and will really need a weekend job for extra money. I live in Northern Ireland at the moment but will be moving to Glasgow for Uni. I'm worried it will take ages to find a job. Anybody know of places I can try applying now?

Re: Student Jobs In Glasgow
yeah I think it will be quite hard, however you might be able to steal a march on other students if you start looking during freshers as most students probably wont be that concerned when they get their first lot of loans and grants. It's normally around christmas when they're skint that they start to look for work.

Re: Student Jobs In GlasgowI think you'll be fine. tbh you might find that people dont start putting up adverts till freshers because they want students to fill the positions.(Original post by LilLisa89)
oh thats not so bad then. Im moving a week before freshers and will be looking for work straight away
Also think about signing up to a TV extras agency, they love students and pay quite well -
Re: Student Jobs In GlasgowYeah but wont i need to wait before i move over to apply... they wont hold jobs open til sept am sure(Original post by Drewley)
You can find a lot of bar / restaurant jobs in the Glasgow section of gumtree

No harm in calling up and explaining your situation!
Edit: I also just remembered that around the start of September Buchanan Galleries (the big shopping centre in town) has a recruitment fair type thing aimed at students, maybe check that out¬!Last edited by Drewley; 25-07-2012 at 22:15. -
Re: Student Jobs In Glasgow
Hi my advise to you would be a get part time job in a opticians as you are studying Optometry it will help u a lot in the long run. There a few opticians surrounding the uni that you could apply to. There is two in Buchanan Galleries Vision Express and Boots Opticians. Specsavers in Sauchiehall Street. There a big Specsavers in Trongate Glasgow this is my work place, they have a close relationship with the uni and do a lot of work together with there optometry and ophthalmic dispensing courses. These are all places in centre of Glasgow.
The reason why i'm saying get a job in a optician now is that on completion of your course you will be required to complete a year of work for your pre-registration period and if you aren't already working in optics it can be a big problem to get a place in a opticians. Just a heads up in advance.
I'll see you at uni in september as thats where i'm going to study optometry :0) -
Re: Student Jobs In Glasgow
The opticians idea is a good one for an ideal solution, just keep in mind that as a student looking for a first part time job you can't reeeally afford to be picky. So a job in an optician would be great, perfect, but if something comes up at the cinema / McDonalds / wherever, go for it

That should take you directly to the page to apply to the Subway on Alexandra Parade, we have a few Caly students working there. My boss is always looking for people, especially as we have a few people moving away for uni in september.
I'm Northern Irish too btw.
