If ~1% of people are psychopaths, do I know one?

If ~1% of people are psychopaths, do I know one?it would mean it's highly likely I've come into contact with psychopaths, whatever way their psychopathy makes them behave... but if 1/100 people are psychopaths does that mean, in my school of 200 people in each year, at least one of those people were likely to have been psychopaths? and in my entire school which had around 1000 people in... it is highly likely that there was one or more psychpaths?

Re: If ~1% of people are psychopaths, do I know one?Its just because people don't know what a psychopath is. Its just a score of emotionality based on a questionnaire, not that you are a serial killer or need "special school" as suggested above.

Re: If ~1% of people are psychopaths, do I know one?..at the end of the day you will never know what people are thinking/plotting...you've just got to live your life and try to take precautions (but there is only so much you can do e.g. you might marry someone that seems lovely and kind and then they turn out to be a psycho) ....

It really isn't that high a number but seems it high because the common view of psychopaths is that they are all dangerous and will kill you as soon as no one is looking.
This isn't the case and most psychopaths fit into society fine. They may be selfish and amoral but they probably aren't dangerous. You probably do know at least one and think nothing unusual about them. The number of dangerous psychopaths is much lower. -

It does not mean that they have any kind of homicidal tendencies, rather they lack empathy, a few other factors too but that is basically it. So yes, you've probably met a good few "psychopaths" and it's unlikely that any of them felt the need to murder you.

Re: If ~1% of people are psychopaths, do I know one?not necessarily diagnosed, i assume it is an estimate. not all psychopaths go on murderous rampages... in fact i would say these are in the minority... there are many high functioning psychopaths... 0.0001% is extremely low.(Original post by james1211)
1%?? That seems really really high. So approx 1 in 100 people you meet are diagnosed psychopaths?
