Re: your favourite one-club man?If its so easy, how come so few manage to do it? You're often sent out on loan as a kid to gain experience, or you get a ridiculously high offer in the twilight of your career from some JCL country somewhere in the far east or America. It takes a considerable amount of loyalty and commitment to stay a one club man whether its with Barcelona or Braintree Town. Its not difficult for a players head to be turned, especially with the amount of money in the game these days.(Original post by ArcadeFire)
Not trying to knock the likes of Scholes, Giggs, Casillas etc, but staying at one club for your whole career isn't really much of a hardship when you're challenging for league titles and the champions league every year at one of the biggest clubs in the world. -
I think loans don't count. It's more about loyalty, going on loan is just for experience it's not disloyal to go on loan.(Original post by sr90)
Scholes and Giggs.
From a non biased pov, Maldini or Le Tiss.
I swear Terry was loaned to Nottingham Forest?
That article doesn't make sense. Half the players named aren't one club men..
Also the article compares non loyal players to loyal ones. So when it says Beckham or Giggs it means non loyal or loyal it's like comparing the loyal players to the non loyal ones. -
Re: your favourite one-club man?
Oh and from a none biased point of view Carles Puyol. Oh okay it is slightly biased but hes been a warrior for Barcelona since he was a kid. Also Maldini, Scholes and Casillas have been brilliant as well.
Ronaldo aint no one club player?(Original post by pbsjohnz)

My point was that there isn't really any way but down from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid from a footballing point of view. There are genuine world class players who haven't won the trophies that their talent and ability warrants, and to me that makes their loyalty to one club more impressive when comparing.
Sure, Giggs or Scholes probably could have opted for one last big pay day or a spell in a sunny foreign country, but there are players who've stayed equally loyal to their clubs in the face of more temptation, in my opinion.
Also, to be clear, I was meaning with regards to players choosing to remain at one club. Obviously it's a huge achievement to actually reach the level of playing for these teams, let alone maintain it throughout their careers. -
Re: your favourite one-club man?Definitely something to be said for those who stay at a club for over a decade - Ambrosini at Milan springs to mind. Del Piero isn't exactly a one club man either, but deserves respect for his time at Juve.(Original post by IWantSomeMushu)
Not technically a one club man, but I love Javier Zanetti. He played for about 5 years in Argentina but has been at Inter since 1995.
This is at ****ing 38 years old! -

Re: your favourite one-club man?
Totti because Scholes, Neville and Giggs still won top silverware in one of the best teams in Europe so there would be less temptation to move. Despite being as good as anyone on his day Totti has only won one league title (iirc) and no european cups. For me that's true dedication.

Re: your favourite one-club man?Once again I'll raise the point that it's easy to be a one-club-man when the club is always a frontrunner for competitions and you're guaranteed silverware.(Original post by robo donkey)
Puyol is a great shout, I love that guy
Matt le Tissier is one I've just thought of who stayed with a club that never wins despite better offers.Last edited by Aramiss18; 22-07-2012 at 20:41.
