Can we order things online to our halls?
When I get to uni, I'm thinking of building my own desktop PC. I'll order all the parts off ebuyer to my hall and then build it in my room. It would mean that I wouldn't have to carry the desktop across the country by ordering it to my house. Would this be allowed?

You can get parcels delivered to your halls - they'll keep it at reception for you and send you a note or email to tell you about it. You might want to check if they've got size restrictions that might affect you though.

I'm not sure but a couple of friends of mine lived in halls at my Uni and had stuff which couldn't be posted held in reception for collection.

You will be able to, they're hardly going to expect you to live there and never get any post. The question is how they will deal with the parcels if they are too big to go in the flat mailbox and/or they have to be signed for. To find that out you'll need to know which halls you will be staying in first as you'll need to ask how it is dealt with at that specific hall.

Yeah, the parcels will be quite large. Especially the desktop case, which'll be around 1m tall, 1m depth and 0.30m width. The other components such as the RAM, GPU, CPU, PSU and mobo will be relatively small.

I'm guessing each hall will have different restrictions regarding packages?

Where I was, the reception in Halls would sign and keep everything for us. We'd get a note in our letterbox, and take it to the front desk to collect it. Simples!

Post that is too big to go into the mailboxes (anything larger than a letter, normally) or that needs to be signed for, will be sent to halls reception. In Fallowfield, this is at Owens Park. They then send you an email telling you that it's there, and that you need to go and pick it up.

I've had some fairly large items (up to 1m x 0.75m x 10cm) sent through, and it's always been fine.

Yeah i got loads of stuff delivered only problem was when it was a phone and they found out accidentally they still rang me up so I just had to sign for it myself.

Anything over £150 is the rule I think.

Haha. It's not a monster, just a lot of packaging I suppose. I just ordered it and they've actually packaged it into 4 smaller boxes. Hopefully the uni reception doesn't reject it!
