After looking on the internet for hours, I am very confused, I would like to become a teacher but I was arrested as a juvenile and have two NFA's and a reprimand, one of the NFA's is for disturbance or nuisance on school premises which was not taken any further, I was 15. By the time I finish my degree to move onto the PGCE I will be 23. I don't know if I should go through the expense and the workload if it will come up on a Enhanced CRB check and prevent me working in this sector. any help would be really nice right now.

Doesn't the criminal record get wiped after so many years if you were a minor and the crime wasnt serious? I don't know whether this is true?

Perhaps you should email the uni and ask for advice or you can ring/email the TDA and they can inform you properly

thats what I thought, then I read that they were changing it to they never get removed from your record untill your 100th birthday which i think is stupid, thanks for your advice

I've just had an answer, they should be declared as soon as possible then I have to go in front of an independent panel who decide whether I'm allowed to take the course, it's the same for when looking for work in schools.

Someone I know has a criminal record for having drugs in their flat when they were a student. They're now in their late 50s and still have to declare it every time they apply for a job. They're an experienced teaching assistant and as far as I know have had no trouble getting jobs.

So hopefully although you have to tell universities and prospective employers about it, it shouldn't prevent you from becoming a teacher.

I think if you get lots of experience working with kids over the years and work really hard to show you've changed then i dont think there will be much of a problem. I dont know how far away you are from applying or what you are doing now but maybe in your spare time volunteer in a school, volunteer over the summer at summer schemes that provide activities for kids or something. It could back up the fact you have changed (which i assume you have lol)

yes I have changed, I have about 5 years until I can apply so plenty of time to demonstrate that I have changed, thanks for the advice.
