    Penguins! Help!
    Hi,

I have been working on a piece of work for uni and I have done most of it but I am confused about a couple of little questions, thought you guys might be able to help me!

1, Why is bare rock very important to the chinstrap penguin but not to the emperor penguin?

I think it's to do with the unique style in which on the emperor looks after their unborn young, but I could be completely wrong.

2,In a polar region if the ambient air temperature is −10 °C and the wind speed is 20 m s−1, what is the equivalent temperature that an exposed skin part such as a person's nose would experience and how much colder would this be than the ambient temperature?

    CONFUSED!

    Thanks!

They're fairly straightforwardly worded questions, have you tried looking for the answers?

to be honest I disagree with regards to the first question which I believe is fairly ambiguous. I mean I think it's to do with the fact that most penguins make nests out of rocks whereas the emperor sits on the egg on it's feet until it hatches, but I don't KNOW the answer. Was hoping someone would indicate that this was right.

If you're not certain, then research some more.

You can't be wondering around all your life waiting for people to indicate the correct answer to you.

If you don't know the answer, then make your best case for what you think is correct, if you don't get the marks then you don't deserve them; that's how these things work.

I couldn't disagree more. I know those 2 facts, I found them out by researching. What I am really asking is, is that how other people interpret the question as well. The second question, sure, that's just laziness, but you can't say I don't 'deserve' any marks because I am unsure as to whether my correct answer is the appropriate correct answer..

You know 2 facts, so write about them. If they are relevant to the question, and you can draw information from them then write them down, if you think the case isn't strong enough, you need to go and find more facts.

If you're unsure whether your answer is correct, then welcome to the real word. If you can't do the research to convince yourself of the correct answer, then of course you don't deserve the marks!

Your main point is sound but I disagree with you in this instance. It's a matter of interpretation. Don't pretend that you have never been unsure about what a question is asking. No amount of research will tell you what a specific question is looking for. I am wondering what angle the question is going for, what I am really saying is that I think it is poorly worded. What you are saying is that no question is ever poorly worded and that it is always the answerer's fault..

Yes it's a matter of interpretation, but the point of questions where this is the case is for you to present to the questioner your interpretation, this is what the marks are for.

Yes questions can be poorly worded, but I perfectly understand that question and don't see the ambiguity at all (but I heve no idea what the answer is, so take that as you will).

Even so, you should still attempt to form an opinion, and back your opinion with facts.

Ok, well if you think the question is perfectly clear then I can assume my answer is right, thanks.
