NHS could work better with reforms.
Basically I want to know your ideas for reforming the NHS thus to make it more effective than it currently is and also make it not a drain on the countries treachery but a service that is free for people that diserve it for free.
The only reform I can come up with so far is that we make people pay for health care if they have recently commented a crime. However this would Proberly be too complex and far too expensive to do. However if people that have self caused illnesses or damage, e.g. Drink driving...
Tell me what you think of this, please go easey on this as it is a small description the idea, there would have to be a lot more involved overiously but this is only an idea. -
Re: NHS could work better with reforms.
In an ideal world, if bringing in these reforms didn't cost anything, then I would suggest getting rid of wastage - things like leaving lights on at night when no one's there - that sort of thing, which could save millions per year.
Then there's wastage of medical equipment, as well as getting rid of atrociously incompetent professionals, be they doctors or management.
In reality, reforms on such a widespread scale would cost a lot upfront, before getting a decent 'return' back. -
Re: NHS could work better with reforms.It's spelt with a f****** s!(Original post by . . .)
No. No more privatization under the subtle heading of "reform". -
Re: NHS could work better with reforms.Yeah that is somthing that would be good, meaning there is always someone on the job. Simple but effective.(Original post by Bill_Gates)
Nurses who take blood tests should not all go to lunch at the same time. They should go one by one. GREAT SUCCESS!. This happened to me twice btw. -
Re: NHS could work better with reforms.Well thank you for your help(Original post by Fynch101)

Re: NHS could work better with reforms. Please inform me in what way did I make it sound as if I support the privatisation of the NHS? As that would mean I could edit it to stop copy comments of this.(Original post by . . .)

I don't want it to be privatised, I only think some self caused medical problems could be paid for by them but the HNS would still be Government supported. (Self caused meaning Drugs, Drink ectra, not normal self mistakes.
Note: Anyone know how to quote more than one post in one post, I carn't be doing it like this for mutch longer.Last edited by WilliamsQI; 24-07-2012 at 00:15. -
Re: NHS could work better with reforms.
I believe that lots of nhs trusts have agreements that they will only buy things from certain companies, thus leading to them not getting the best deal because these companies don't have to be competitive with price.
not entirely sure if this is correct but if it is they should stop this. -

Re: NHS could work better with reforms.perhaps you could expand a bit for those of us that don't know what the french system is.(Original post by benpearson1)
Maybe something like the French system could be implemented? -
Re: NHS could work better with reforms.Ok, I only have limited knowledge on it but here's my understanding:(Original post by boba)
perhaps you could expand a bit for those of us that don't know what the french system is.
All hospitals are 'privatised' so to speak. However, everyone pays a compulsory health insurance (i.e tax) to the government. The funds received from the health insurance then go towards subsidising all medical procedures. I believe the standard rate there is 70% of costs, but I think this could (and more importantly should) rise for more expensive treatment eg operations could be subsidised 80-90%. I'd also introduce in the UK further insurance measures to ensure that poorer people still receive excellent medical care.
Now I know this will basically seem like the NHS now, but it does tackle some fundamental problems under the current system. Firstly, it encourages competition between hospitals/practices as patients get to choose where to go as they're paying a fee for their healthcare. They will have to reduce costs and try to be more efficient if they want to keep afloat, which will hopefully reduce overspending. Secondly, it will tackle the massive waiting lists under the current system, as again patients get to choose where to go. It will reduce people going to the doctors for any slight reason as they have to pay in part for it and the cost will accumulate if they aren't sensible.
That's the best I could give you, but for 2011 it was ranked the best healthcare system in the world

Re: NHS could work better with reforms.apart from the fact that patients on the nhs system can choose where they want to go (for example when I was told I had to have an operation I was given a list of hospitals that do that operation and asked to pick) they all sound like fairly sensible points.(Original post by benpearson1)

Re: NHS could work better with reforms.Really? I don't remember being given the choice when I last had an operation, although this was some time ago.(Original post by boba)

Just to clarify: I love the NHS and think it's a great thing. Healthcare is absolutely a positive right. However, I still think that under carefully considered reform it could be improved. -
Re: NHS could work better with reforms.my operation was about 4 years ago and I think it was not long after the thing about giving choice was brought in(Original post by benpearson1)

and of course things should always strive to improve! even things that are brilliant if they don't strive to move forward they will stagnate decay.
