    How to stop nail biting
    Hi,

I'm an obsessive nail-biter. I bite and chew my nails pretty much all the time and I don't even realise I do it most of the time. As a result my nails are pretty horrid looking   and actually painful.

What are the best ways to stop biting? are there any possible substitutes to chew when I feel the sub-conscious urge to bite them? Any tips would be appreciated

    Thanks

I've heard of people putting some sort of polish on their fingers and nails, that leaves a bad taste when you bite it and so deters you from biting your nails

You can buy this nail polish type thing that tastes vile as to deter you from biting them It's definitely available in Boots but I do not doubt that you' be able to get it cheaper elsewhere

This worked for my sister. But if you are as dedicated as me, I learned to get used to the taste and bite through. Given up trying to quit now lol.

My sister does this, I smack her hand away every time in hopes of conditioning her against it o.O

I've been a nail biter all my life, off and on. I know I do it when I'm nervous. I guess I sometimes do it out of boredom but anxiety and stress are my biggest reasons for doing it. Thanks for the great information!

Old habits die hard. It'd literally take someone punching me in the face every time I went to bite my nails to stop me. I'd still probably have bitten nails in that scenario, but with a sore face.

:O There is another one. I thought I was the only person who could now deal with the taste of this stuff.

I have an elastic band around my wrist all the time and I "ping" my wrist each time I catch myself biting my nails. I don't know if it's working yet.

Cut them short and file them till they're smooth. For me its a nervous tick, but it's also a crazy pursuit of perfection. "Oh, this bit feels slightly rough when I rub my finger against it" *nibble*

Be sure to cut them short on the sides if your nails are as malformed as mine. Whenever I notice "excess nail" it's just more temptation.

    That's what worked for me.
