I am doing my AS levels next year and I am really unsure which choices I should do, I would like to study medicine at uni. I am definitely going to do bio+chem but unsure on others. 1. Biology, chemistry, geography, politics. 2./,/, /, ICT. 3. /,/,/, Economics. 4. Biology, chemistry, politics, economics. 5. B+C, politics and ICT

I would like to do medicine and I am definitely doing biology and chemistry but am unsure in my other two, they will either be geography, ICT, politics or economics, but which two? I know ICT is soft but I feel I need a soft subject otherwise it will be a too heavy workload for me.

You've set yourself up well with Biology and Chemistry - for an area such as Medicine, these two are compulsory. For a complete safe bet, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths would be ideal, but I feel you've got a good foundation in terms of subjects to set yourself up with Medicine.
Out of the subjects you've listed I would choose ICT and Geography.

Medicine is a funny one. You need for most AAA at a minimum, so you need to pick subjects you know you'll excel in. Look at it in terms of what you would like to continue on to A2 with. You must have Biology and Chemistry, so you need to think about which is A) the easiest and B) the one you'll most enjoy for your third A2 subject.

Many Medical courses generally require 3 solid subjects and allow (sometimes) an arts subject. ICT isn't too relevant to Medicine, but Geography and Economics will give you a human and financial insight into the realm of Medicine. Politics might give you an edge in terms of the ethical debates you might encounter doing Medicine, but again, it isn't relevant.

I'm taking all three Sciences and Maths with the intention of dropping Physics come A2. Have you considered doing Physics or Maths at all?

If you said no, and looking at your choices, I'd say take Bio, Chem, Geo and Economics.

Like I said though, most, if not all Universities have the majority of applicants applying with Trip Science and Maths - all at a very high grade. I would suggest at best choosing only one non-science/maths related A-Levels.

I think you should stay away from 'easy' subjects such as ICT and politics so out of your choices I would say geography and economics

That shows requirements.

A good combination is Biology, Chemistry and two other rigorous subjects at AS, and three or more of these at A2. All Cambridge colleges say they want more at least three sciences to at least AS Level, but apart from that there is no need to take Physics or Maths if you don't enjoy them. An arts subject as a third A Level can provide a contrast, but apart from UCL and Peninsula, doing a contrasting subject doesn't put you at an advantage. A combination of all sciences is just as good as one with a contrasting subject. You don't necessarily need Biology AS/A Level as long as you meet the subject requirements of the universities you're applying to, although you might be at a disadvantage once you start the course and you should be prepared to be questioned about your decision not to take it at interview. Lack of Chemistry AS/A Level will be more of a problem and will seriously limit your choice of medical schools. Be careful when taking a combination of Maths with Further Maths or Biology with PE because some universities feel that they shouldn't count as two distinctive subjects due to overlap of the course content - this could be a problem if a university requires you to have, say, three A Levels and a fourth distinctive AS. Also, remember that you need to enjoy your subjects to do well in them so don't feel pressurised into taking a subject you hate just because it might be seen as slightly more respected (provided it's traditional and you also fill the requirements in terms of science A Levels and overlapping subjects). However if you're worried there's no harm in sending a quick email to admissions just to make sure.

All three subjects are well respected.

Having done both Geography and Politics I can tell you that Politics was by far the easier of the two and in my view the most interesting.

Your decision should be based on which two you find most interesting, not on whether they are easier.

If you feel that four difficult subjects would be too heavy a workload, are you sure you want to do medicine? Bear in mind that as a medicine applicant, working hard would be part of the deal.
I think go for Geography and Economics.

Geography is easy so if you're looking for one that isn't difficult to go alongside those, pick that! There is quite a lot to learn but it really isn't difficult and is very do-able.
