Fixed Penalty Notice - can any further action be taken after?
If you get a FPN for a driving offence, is that it, end of story? You suck it up, pay the fine, take the points etc. or can they then take you to court as well? A friend has got a FPN and his car was seized, when phoning about it and how to go about sorting it they mentioned something about pending prosecution. Is this because he hasn't yet paid the fine and his licence isn't yet back with points on it as it was only a day or two ago or does that mean they're considering or are going to take him to court?

Once you pay the FPN, that is it, the matter is sorted - unless you received the FPN for one offence, and they intend to prosecute you for another offence I guess. (e.g. speeding and DUI, they give you a FPN for the speeding, and then take you to court for DUI - don't know if that would ever happen though)

If say you get an FPN for a traffic offence and you pay it up within the timescale, that's it - offence has been dealt with, case closed.

If you don't deal with the FPN within the timescale (30 days I believe), the ticket office can (and do) withdraw the FPN and send you a court summons instead for the original offence. They can't FPN and send you to court for the exact same offence.

You can inform the authorities at the time of getting the FPN that you wish it to be dealt with in court - details of how to do that are on the ticket

Ah ok, that's what I thought it probably was. Thanks for clearing that up.
