Generally front office jobs are more revenue generating position.. ie directly generating a profit source.

A back office role, typically would not generate revenue, directly. One could assume from if jobs are cut from back office, overall potential for profits in short term go up.

they don't generate revenues and don't have much say when making decision. decisions are made from people who probably came from FO and they're unlikely to cut their own divisions first.
BO are seen as overheads, when you wanna cut overheads, you cut them.

Now its a different question whether that's a good idea

If they could be persuaded to work front office hours, you wouldn't need as many staff...

And there's the general feeling that the worst people in the back are actually creating work rather than actually doing any.
