Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.
How is that true when their website still says 4years!?
I need that comment to be false

Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.The website obviously needs updating, I found out about them no longer requiring the UKCAT via Twitter this morning and then only found out about them changing to a 5 year course by the lady on the phone. Even UCAS now says it's a 5 year course. Check out the links I've posted in the original post.(Original post by Gucci Mane2010)

Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.
We now only have the following 4 year GEP dentistry courses:
KCL = 30 places
UCLan = 32 places
Liverpool = 15 places
Aberdeen = 20 places
Total 4 year GEP places = 97 places. It's going to be ridiclously competitive for graduates this yes, especially for places at KCL and UCLan. -
Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.
So there will be an even greater emphasis on the UKCAT now and most likely A-levels plus GCSE's will have a greater impact on success. Every aspect of your application gets scrutinised that much more.
Had to be in the year I want to apply, higher fees and less GEP options... -
Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.Do you think they will accept resits?(Original post by ZA.1)

Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.Sorry I'm unsure, you'll have to email/ring and ask them. I'm just feeling down right now because of all this EU legistlation issue.(Original post by shuaib786)

Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.As a graduate applying to Plymouth?(Original post by Gucci Mane2010)
I wonder what level of applicant you now have to be in order to get through to even the interview -
Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.As a graduate to the remaining GEP's. With less places the requirements for getting an interview will just increase(Original post by ZA.1)
As a graduate applying to Plymouth? -
Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.What EU Issue? and I should think so.... the medical school allows resits.(Original post by ZA.1)

What EU Issue? and I should think so.... the medical school allows resits.
EU legislation is telling institutes that dental training should be 5 years long, and that any shortened courses e.g. 4 year GEP courses, should not exist and should be turned to 5 year courses.
They specified both hours (5000 hours) and years (5 years) for training. Therefore the EU is saying we won't take into account the ''hours'' from the first degree.
It's a load of bull**** if you ask me.Last edited by ZA.1; 26-07-2012 at 14:45. -
Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.I think KCL will get a lot more applications than previous years. Not many people seem to know about Peninsula, so there might be a lot of last minute decision making for many graduates nearer the deadline in October. I'm very surprised Peninsula hasn't updated its website yet, considering they've made a HUGE change. They also need to let college applicants know, because most college students won't even know about Peninsula and the changes they're making.(Original post by Gucci Mane2010)

Getting a high UKCAT (700+) will be crucial for us graduates this year to have a good chance with King's College. -
Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.I would rather get into uclans or liverpool than KCL but I would be happy with any offer. 700+ is very high, will see if the UKCAT prep pays off(Original post by ZA.1)

They pay for your course fees if you stay in Scotland and work in the NHS for 5 years ... and you get a free laptop to use for the duration of the degree.

Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.That would be great if they were only in the midlands lol. I will still use up all 4 options!(Original post by ZA.1)

Are you a first time applicant? -
Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.I'm reapplying, got 4 rejections last time. Is this your first time? You could apply to Liverpool, UCLan, Aberdeen and Sheffield or Birmingham.(Original post by Gucci Mane2010)

Re: Plymouth Dental School - No longer GEP! Now a 5 yr course.It is my first time. Liverpool, Uclan, KCL and Aberdeen are my choices atm. I cant afford the 5 year UG courses so birmingham and sheffield are unfortunately not possible options.(Original post by ZA.1)

What did you do in your year? If im unfortunate to get rejections I would use it for saving up and work experience
