    Failed first year! helpppppp!
Hey everyone, in need of advice!

    Here's the situation!...

1st year student studying major in Psychology and minor in Criminology

Failed psych exams, passed criminology exams

Extenuating circumstances allowing me to retake the psych exams, however I want to drop psychology anyway as I struggle with it and there will be no hope of me passing these exams the 2nd time round. Been told that I need to pass the first year in order to move onto 2nd year. Surely there are other options ect? Need advice pleaseee! anyone who is in/was in my situation and able to give advice would be much appreciated cheers!

The only people who will be able to give you the reassurance you need are at your university, not on here, as all universities are likely to have different approaches to your situation. My best advice is to go and speak with your personal tutor as soon as you can. Don't leave it until later in the holiday. Whatever the outcome, there may be procedures which take time, plus it's the holiday season, so you may need to track your tutor down and that may take time too. There will be several options to think about and it's not over until it's over, but you need to get all this from the horse's mouth. Good luck.

Click on the forum tab at the top, then go onto the type of thread you want to post, I.e. psychology, sport etc. Then at the top of the page there is a create a new thread button, click on that.

My friend did Law (Cambridge) and wanted to switch to History of Art, they said only if she got a 2.1 at the end of first year, she got a 3rd, they let her take HoA anyway. Not quite the same thing, but yeah, your uni may be similar. Wouldn't risk it though, ask your tutors ad people.

I'm sorttt of in a similar position. Doing single honours hispanic studies and failed one of my modules, simply by messing up ONE exam (which equals failing the year basically). Luckily all I have to do is submit an essay, although it costs me 50 quid, dammit.

My advice would be to work REALLY hard, do your resits/resubmissions/whatever you need to do, pass, get into second year, and then go to them with any requests you have for moving around, once your place at the uni is actually secured.
