What is the best anti virus?
I'm willing to pay for it if it will help me prevent any viruses. I know that 'I' am the best anti virus for my computer before someone tries to be clever :p: but some help on the best one out there at the moment.

MSE is great - simple to use, unobtrusive and doesn't hog your processor/RAM.

And its free. I've used it for about 3-4 years now, haven't got a virus in that time.

You need a combination of anti-virus and anti-malware.

For anti-virus I recommend Eset, it's a great program that barely uses ram and as for anti-malware there's only really one option and it's Malwarebytes. If there's anything to catch that will.

I assumed I'd need something a bit more than that just incase. I used to use Kaspersky but with getting a new machine tonight I want something in there that'll protect me from the Internet

Is malware bytes free or paid? I've downloaded it before but I can't remember for the life of me!

Norton seems to have a pretty decent reputation now since its revamp a few years back. It used to be terrible though!

    Run Spybot alongside Malwarebytes.

I have Malwarebytes too, but rarely use that. Like you said above, you are the best AV there is, but MSE is backed by Microsoft and does everything you need to prevent viruses during standard use.

You assumed wrong. Get MSE and also get Malware Bytes. Keep malware bytes just incase you ever get a virus and you can use that as a scanner and just have MSE as your active anti-virus. You can also use the Malware bytes trial for 14 days to get the active protection, but after that it goes back to just being for scanning and cleanup purposes.

It's both. I have the paid version which blocks access to malicious IP's. I've had malware problems in the past and malwarebytes was always the only program capable of removing it.

Best Anti Virus is the human brain.

Download Adblock and don't download anything without actually thinking about it/accept to run random Java applications

Or just find out which anti virus most people on hackforums uses whatever they use would probably be the best since they got strong knowledge of virus's

    Common sense.

But seriously i'd go for mse it's lightweight, and picks up most things. Best of all it's free.
