quetiapine side effects
Anyone here take quetiapine/seroquel and can answer this please?
For the past few months I have been feeling very dizzy whenever I stand up, I have to grab something to stop myself falling and I get black staring at the edges of my vision and moving closer to the centre. I also started quetiapine in January. I can't remember if that was when the dizziness started or not.
Anyway, I looked it up and quetiapine can cause dizziness but what I'm wondering is does this effect wear off? Should I go to my GP or is this simply a side effect of the quetiapine? Is this likely to perhaps be diabetes because I know quetiapine can cause that too? (although I've only been on it 7 months so I don't think it causes diabetes that fast......I don't think). -
Re: quetiapine side effects
See your GP/whoever prescribed it - to me it sounds similar to a side-effect I had when starting clomipramine (tricyclic antidepressant), when it gave me low blood pressure. It's worth speaking to your doctor about to check if that's the case for you too - it might not be too serious (I was just told to take care to stand up slowly and sit down when I felt dizzy), but then again it might be something that needs further looking into.

Re: quetiapine side effectsI'm on 500mg, but I would of thought that the side effects should have worn off with time like you mention.(Original post by Mchouse)
next time you go for a refill tell the gp your symptoms and stress the fact that it has major effect in your life, don't just mention it otherwise it might be overlooked. what dose are you on? generally the side effects i had wear off with time and i was on 600mg.
Thanks, I will mention it when I get a refill. I've started getting really bad headaches along with the visual disturbances which is kinda worrying

Re: quetiapine side effects
Pretty common side effect (orthostatic hypotension), I got it so did the majority of people I've spoken to who've been on it
Usually it wears off within days/weeks of beginning quetiapine as your body adjusts to it, that was certainly the case in my experience. As you're still experiencing it despite being on it for several months it'd definitely be worth raising it with your doctor.
I found that taking time to stand up especially after having been seated for more than 20 minutes helped a fair bit, rather than my usual bolting upright and bounding about. Reduced the blurred vision and the washed out head rush feeling.
