Chubby basically means fat, doesn't it? Or have I got it wrong?

I'm a girl myself. The best way to look better is to lose weight.
Still trolling, imso? After all this time?

I've always thought of chubby to be different than fat, as have almost everyone I know.

At the end of the day even if the case is to lose weight to look better, there is absolutely no need to be so rude about it.

I'd go for skater dresses - They're fitted to the waist and then flare out, they always seem to make thighs look slimmer and they're comfy!
Good black tights! The John Lewis Bodyshaper tights are amazing!
Jersey wrap dresses are also quite good!
Empire dresses can look good, but, I'm a size 10-12 and find that it depends what shop they're from makes them look either awful or great!

    Hope these tips help

If you are saying you are chubby, then you are fat so it should come as no surprise that you "look... fat".

Get a size 10 dress and work towards it.

This is very harsh and judgemental and is the worst advice. Even if OP follows your advice (which she definitley shouldn't) she'll still need to look nice in the mean time. I hate black and white opinions like this. It's easy to say "you're fat lose weight" but as someone that's already shed 2 stone I can tell you that it's not as easy as that. Some people find it harder to lose weight than others it takes a lot of hard work and motivation. If someone is happy with their weight then surely that is their own business anyway I don't see how it's anyone else's place to judge.

Chiffon/floaty/textured dress that ties in at the middle.

Block colours or busy prints, not big blocky patterns.

Sleeveless, halterneck, or baggy sleeves (like a big T-shirt) but not tight short little sleeves. With longer sleeves, use your judgement depending on the transparency or bagginess of the material.

you know, on paper this sounds right. on paper empire sounds like a lovely idea for larger girls.

in reality, the honest truth is that it makes everyone look pregnant. tight under the bust and 'skimming' over the tummy just doesn't seem to work, ever.
Not true - find a well made, well fitting empire line dress and it'll be one of the most flattering things in your wardrobe. The trick is a wider band, and at least an inch between under bust and the start of the band. The lower the band sits (to an extent, obviously lower than your natural waist creates that hideous and MASSIVELY unflattering drop waist) the slimmer you look. And its all about the fabric. But I digress...

Personally, I love bodycon/bandage dresses for containing curves, provided the wearer has the right underwear on.

if it sits on the waist it is not an empire line dress. empire line dresses are high waisted.
i think it's one of those things that just does not work in person. personally I just think they always look unflattering and make everyone look pregnant.

I think that's a seriously rude way to tell someone to lose weight. Ever considered maybe the OP IS trying to lose weight but for some reason can't? Or that maybe they're happy with their weight but would like clothing that's more flattering for their body shape?

They didn't ask rude people to come in here and call them fat and to go diet.
"I'm happy with my weight, but would like to know how to better disguise my weight."

    Somehow I remain unconvinced.

Feel like whenever i go out and look at pictures the next day i look awful and just fat.
what sort of dresses would look nice with a girl with pretty big thighs and a belly!?
If you recognise you're fat, why are you surprised you look fat? :dontknow:

What you're saying is no different to this: I have yellow teeth, but I hate how my teeth always look yellow on photos! What camera lens can I use to get rid of the yellowness?

This is probably going to come across as rude, harsh, etc. but it really isn't intended to. Whilst you may find a dress that looks OK, you'd be able to find much nicer looking dresses if you got yourself into better shape, as well as the copious other benefits it brings. It's not like you're going to find a dress that conceals the fact that you're chubby, which is what it sounds like you're looking for.

    Sometimes the truth hurts.

    Dress sizes don't mean anything.

A 6 foot woman thats a 12 is going to look 10 times better than a 5 foot woman who is also a size 12.

Find out what your body shape is!

    Pear, apple, hour glass etc!

Evans do this for freee! And get a well fitting bra it can make a huge difference! Buy dresses for your assets!

For example I like my boobs but I don't like my arms, so boobs out arms away, if you don't like your legs or stomach try a maxi or midi dress with a pattern on, and black is always slimming!

Hope this helps! I know how awful looking at the photos the next day is!

And you're beautiful no matter what anyone says!!!

People can be happy with their weight but still want to dress their best.

It's not about disguising your weight, it's about flattering your body shape. For example, I'm happy being short but I like wearing things that elongate my legs, like bootcut jeans. I'm happy with the size of my boobs but I can't wear anything too low cut or they just look obscene. It's the same idea.

I know that, but empire line dresses SHOULDN'T sit right under your boobs. that's not "high waisted" that's underbust.

I agree I think if you get it wrong it looks hideous, but get it right and it looks fab.

So big people should just walk around naked until they're a size 10?

No, but you can hardly look nice and be genuinely fat at the same time.
