Re: Tips for a flatter tummy :)i want to do weights...but when i get my BF% lower(Original post by boba)
I always understood skinny-fat to mean skinny but unfit
if shes doing lots of cardio shes probably not going to be unfit even if she doesn't look "toned" because of not also building some muscle.
i'm 27% muscle without doing any weight training. -
Re: Tips for a flatter tummy :)I didn't mean that as an attack on you I was more questioning his usage of the word. In that I wouldn't describe someone who had very little muscle as skinny fat just someone who was skinny but unfit.(Original post by *Thedreaming*)

I would personally stick to that plan as you can see what you look like when you have lost the fat and then decide if you think you need to build muscle.
with regards to you being 27% muscle I don't really know what that means since I don't know what is a low/average/high amount. sorry -

You understood wrong.
Yes, start doing weights as soon as possible. It's difficult to put on muscle mass while running a calorie deficit but if you start doing weights now it can help to minimize the amount of muscle you're burning with all the cardio.(Original post by *Thedreaming*)
i'm trying to reduce my BF%
do i need to start doing weights..i wanted to wait until i got my BF% down till doing weights
i'm not fat,but i'm not skinny either -

Re: Tips for a flatter tummy :)For men to have abs that are showing their body fat percentage is from 13% downwards, the equiv. for women (not having showing abdominal muscles but a flat stomach) is from roughly 19% and below. This is not prescriptive, but a general view, people vary and different levels of body fat affect people differently.(Original post by tsrstar)
Not to sound like a complete moron, which no doubt i will, but how much body fat should you have to get the flat tummy?
Let’s say, for a woman, 22 years of age

A rough guide is pretty helpful. Guess i'll have to lower my body fat % a little more to get the abs.

I'm doing lots of cardio with the view of lowering my BF%(to get a flatter stomach also)
do you think it is wise to hold off weight training until it gets lower?
my muscle % ok for now (27%) -
Re: Tips for a flatter tummy :)There's no reason why you can't include weight lifting in lowering your body fat percentage. For example at the moment I'm cutting (dropping my BF%) and I'm still lifting in the same routine as normal, but eating less calories and including cardio with every session. I'd say it's actually more beneficial to do weight training as well as cardio in any attempt to reduce body fat.(Original post by *Thedreaming*)
