Re: Why is midwifery so competitive?Don't take my word for it, i might be wrong....(Original post by M.AKH)
really? most people only get one offer?
and what didnt she like about the course if you dont mind me asking? Was it midwifery as a whole?
Yeah, Iv been considering various work experience placements, but have to get confirmation first
She didn't like the fact that the midwife doesn't get to make much decisions and often have to ask for a doctor to do stuff, also she complained a lot about the ethics parts of the course, so she transferred to biology, she got to have some of her modules count towards her biology so it wasn't a completely wasted year -
Re: Why is midwifery so competitive? The one with the offer did psychology, health and social, maths and biology at AS, but I'm not sure what they dropped for A2, probably H&S as thats btec(Original post by M.AKH)
oh ok
what subjects do they do, and what unis are they planning on applying/going to??
The other one did; psychology, biology, chemistry and maths at AS and is almost definately dropping chemistry. -
Re: Why is midwifery so competitive?there's only so much abuse from patients colleagues and managers that anyone can stand - hence the reasons some units and trusts have recruitment and retention issues constantly ...(Original post by M.AKH)
yeah thats true, but cant believe people would drop out from such a good job -
Re: Why is midwifery so competitive?I'm not saying it's bad it's a wonderful career, but many find it isn't what they expect therefore they drop out. :}(Original post by M.AKH)
ohhh okay that makes much more sense, thank you
But honestly whats so bad about midwifery- it looks great to me

Re: Why is midwifery so competitive? It's also to do with the fact that there's not enough working midwives who are willing to be mentors/shadowed by a student midwife.(Original post by LOUDLOUD)
I thought they actually wanted more midwives?
As well as those already said, government supplying the funds for it, and the fact that call the midwife and one born ever minute has made people think oh yay babies! I want to be a midwife.-.- each to their own, but that does annoy me a lil bit.
