Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????
Okay so I got a student loan 1000 pounds interest free and I decide I will use it to buy a MacBook but I have a rent to pay for 135 a week at the University Accomodation. And my student finacne decide to pay me 3575 for this entire year and that's it. So I have added that I will pay 745 more to the rent with the money that the student finance gave me because it all adds up to 4300 or something like that leaving me with the only option to work to get that 745 extra money to help pay the rent for the entire 8months. Is this a wise choice???
By the this for the University of Bedfordshire. -
Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????
So you're basically planning to spend £1,000 on a macbook which will leave you with £745 to find to cover your rent....and without taking into account any additional cash you'll need to cover food, socialising, books and transport.
No this is not a wise choice.
Also you're best waiting until you get to university before buying a macbook if you do need one - apple's education shop offers significant discounts (10-20% off) on their laptops and desktops but is only available if you're accessing it from a university IP address. -

:O that is so true. I feel stupid. I should definetly think about that. For now I will hold on to the 1000 for the rent untill I attend University and I get a job and see if I can do a payment Install on a MacBook instead. Makes more sense and is wiser and safer. -
Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????
its so blatantly a bad idea that I don't even understand why its a question.
you won't just have to find the £745 to cover rent, are you not planning on eating? what about transports? never going to go out or do any social activities that cost money, not even coffee ect.?
and what happens if you struggle to find a job.
its not even like a £1000 macbook is something you could sensibly suggest you might need. -

Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????Perhaps you should find the job and then consider the macbook(Original post by ANewStudent)
I plan to get a job so I could get money to buy food and go out.
You will have to pay your first term's rent pretty quickly ... will you have a job by then -
Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????you didn't address the point of "what if you struggle to find a job"(Original post by ANewStudent)
I plan to get a job so I could get money to buy food and go out.
plus a part time job would probably cover food and going out but its not likely to cover, food and going out AND an extra £745 needed of rent. its possible that it could but I wouldn't count on it. I'd maybe get the job first then see if you are making enough to cover the macbook -
Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????Yes, there is no doubt. I will get a job. Not just a job a really good that pays me enough money like 200 a week. I can already see the money coming in my bank account every week due to my job. So I am not going worry too much about that part.(Original post by TenOfThem)

I won't buy the MacBook untill I get a Job that pays me at least 100 pounds a week. -
Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????well then that sounds like a much more sensible plan(Original post by ANewStudent)

For £200 a week you will, presumably, be working quite a few hours ... about 30 ... that is quite a lot to be working in your first year -
Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????Yeah I know, I was so confused before and yesterday I was going to spend my 1000 pounds on a laptop but now joining the student rooms, the answers made me really think and reconsider and now I am more confident. My heart feel so much better!(Original post by boba)
well then that sounds like a much more sensible plan
& I want to thank you all for helping me out.

Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????That's just my dreamjob lol! It wasn't real. But you know miracles do happen and hopefully I will be one of the lucky ones. If I don't get a Job that pays me that much, I will just have to settle for a weekend Job and work on fridays after Uni and get at least a salary of 50 quid a week. I am satisfied with that. I would just spend 30 on food every week and the rest save up or use it to go hang out and stuff. I wouldn't have to worry about rent anymore since that's already covered by the maintainance grant the student finance will be giving me plus the grand loan-(interest free) I have from my bank.(Original post by TenOfThem)

Where you stuck in this situation before? How did you go about it? -
Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????I still feel like I should repeat that a £1000 mac book still sounds like a silly expense that you don't need, but if you REALLY want one then yeah getting the job first and saving up is the way to go. Also use the apple student discount(Original post by ANewStudent)

Re: Is this a wise choose concerning my spending and rent?????Like financially? Nope. They are very poor. :/ You were lucky! Did you have to work to earn your living or was it that easy?(Original post by TenOfThem)
No, when I did my degree my grant was enough for me to live on
Are your parents helping you at all? -

But it's worth it as it as all the stuffs on it like photoshop and stuff so it's definetly worth it. Yeah I will once I get a job. (: -

They cannot be that poor surely ... or is there another reason that you are on the minimum loan and no grant
Ignore me if I am being too nosey
& I want to thank you all for helping me out.
