Best Beatles album?
I made a thread the other day entitled 'Best band of all time?', which included a poll.
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=2042224
The winner of the poll was the beatles, with ~27% of the vote.
This thread and poll is an add on to the first thread, and is asking for the views of TSR on what is the best beatles album.
I am only including full 'studio albums' and not EP's/LP's -
Re: Best beatles album?
A question which has genuinely puzzled me for many an hour

And after all those hours of contemplation, I still can't decide between Abbey Road and Revolver.
Something vs Here There and Everywhere, Here Comes the Sun vs And Your Bird Can Sing, Tomorrow Never Knows vs the Abbey Road Medley...the conundrums go on and on like the repeated guitar chords in I Want You (She's So Heavy)
That said, my favourite Beatles song is actually on Let It Be...but as a complete album Let It Be just isn't that amazing (well relatively speaking, all Beatles albums are amazing
). Really glad the final album they recorded together was Abbey Road, talk about an amazing finish
Oh, and just to add, Help! is a seriously underrated album imho.Last edited by Democracy; 24-07-2012 at 15:06. -
Re: Best beatles album?
Revolver is my favourite. It features several of my favourite Beatles songs (For No One, I'm Only Sleeping, And Your Bird Can Sing, and so on), there isn't a bad song on there, and it's very nicely put together (probably second only to Abbey Road of their albums I have).
Abbey Road is a close second, but the second half, while very well written, isn't consistently great, and there are a couple of songs I don't always enjoy listening to (for example, the bluesy parts of I Want You (She's So Heavy)). -

never really liked any beatles stuff, probably the most overrated band in history -
Re: Best beatles album?Although I like the songs from revolver, I don't consider it to be their best album. The music is too different; I feel little effort was put into making it as an album rather than a compilation of singles.(Original post by Cerdog)

The reason Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road are my two favorites is that the music just feel like it fits together correctly. Especially Sgt. Pepper, where they managed to keep a similar theme in all the songs and still have them all unique and interesting.

Re: Best beatles album?I disagree, but I won't neg you. I think for people who don't 'get' The Beatles, the general response they are met with (e.g. 'WTF they're amazing' etc) will do little to make them go and give their albums a(nother) listen.(Original post by DickDastardly)

Even if you have listened to their stuff and still don't like it - then fine - we're all allowed an opinion. Some people don't like strawberry ice cream - they don't deserve to be called cretins for it though - they may just prefer chocolate flavour! It would be boring if we were all the same.
Personally, Abbey Road is my fave album but Penny Lane and Here Comes the Sun are my favourite tracks. -

Re: Best Beatles album?
Some of their songs are good, but (even though it is a cliche) they are overrated. I listened to Abbey Road the other day, and though it's decent, I wouldn't say it was amazing. I'm a big fan (as you can see in my avatar!) of Pink Floyd, also Led Zeppelin and other bands from that sort of era and imo they seem much bolder in their styles and in the way they took music. I think one of the problems I have with the Beatles is that lots of their songs sound very similar, and even though they had some great ones (Let It Be, Hey Jude, Here Comes The Sun etc.) there's no way that I could say that they're the best band in history.
