    Barcelona in September, help appreciated!
This is my opening gambit for this holiday/suprise so any advice would be great.

As the schools go back I'm expecting the prices to go down around the second week of September but I'm wondering how much I should budget and what it's likely to cost. Also, any specific links to deals etc would be great.

I'd be more than happy staying in an apartment as long as it wasn't too far from Las Ramblas or the main beach area.

I have a budget of about £500 between 2 for 2/3 days, I can go a bit higher if something comes up though.

Well any questions please ask as I'm sure I haven't given people enough information up to now!

Are you going with your girlfriend? You should be able to get a fairly decent hotel for under 100 euro a night around Avinguda Diagonal, about 5-10 mins metro from the Ciutat Vella and beach.

Ryanair have just opened flights to El Prat Airport from Liverpool so that'd be ideal for you.

Will say two things about BCN though: I'm sure you know it but Las Ramblas is the pickpocketing capital of the world. Carry absolutely nothing in back pockets and hold onto stuff in your pockets at all times when on that street. Also, the beach is pretty dirty and unromantic. My recommendation for a lovely beach trip would be Sitges. ~45 minutes on the train from the main (Sants) railway station and Passeig de Gràcia (slightly more central) on the green R2 line. Costs about 7 euro return.

For general info on Barcelona as a city consider giving the Wikitravel article and its district subsections a thorough read from top to bottom. It's extremely helpful and does a lot to point out the key differences between Catalan customs (cuisine, music, entertainment, language) and those of the rest of Spain, as well as where to avoid being ripped off.

General essentials: Ramblas, Sants Martins church, Sagrada Família, Parc Güell (don't go at the weekend!), harbour, Montjuic.

Deliberately not mentioning Camp Nou as I'm not a massive fan of FCB

I've been to Barca before :p: RobbieC got his iPod robbed off him within 5 minutes of leaving the airport :rofl2: but the other hint for the beach is great :mmm:

My £500 budget was including spends that's why I wouldn't mind an apartment When Iast went I think we paid about £15 each a night for some great apartment near Barcolentta(?) station.

The Liverpool flights will be great! Saves going to Manchester for them!

I am going with the gf this time though, so will be trying to show her around as she's never been to Spain before.

I am terrible at finding deals, so any help would be appreciated

Just did some searching and for some reason it appears the last week of August is cheaper for hotels than the second week of September. The flights are about the same. Although, it is going to cost about £500 for the flights and hotel for both of us for 3 nights.

So bearing that in mind, what do you think would be reasonable spends. We would get into Barcelona 10am on the Monday and leave at about 5pm on the Thursday.

I went to Barcelona for a few days earlier this month; absolutely loved it. We stayed in student accommodation at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. It was a flat for 5 people; there were 3 of us who went, so we shared with 2 others. It was great accommodation; 2 shower rooms, a kitchen and living room. There was a pool outside, cafes, grocery store etc. The price was only £14 a night; including breakfast (which was nothing special tbh).
    ,
The campus was located in Bellatera, which was about 30 mins from Plaça Catalunya on the train.

Can anyone stay there  And do you always stay with other people? Student accommodation might not be for me though, but of a clean freak :p:

Great find if you can do it though :yep:

Yep, anyone can stay there. The flats available are of different sizes - think they range from 2-6 people flats. We shared with a girl finishing off her masters and an older fella. We had a cleaner come round everyday.

More interesting :beard: Do you perhaps have any links for this?

What would you recommend spend wise for a couple?

I think this would be a great place. We were only there for 2 full days, so we didn't do a lot. I'd recommend going on the free walking tour of city; there's 2 different routes - one which concentrates on the architecture of Antoni Gaudi and one which takes you round the Old City. Consider taking a tour of the Sagrada Familia; think it's 11 euros pp. Go to the beach! It can be a little full, but it wasn't too bad when we went.
