    Finance Analyst Apprentice
    Hi guys,

I am 20 years old (so only get half funding for apprenticeships), am a University drop out, decided to go for apprenticeships instead and am now in a bit of a predicament.

I started an apprenticeship in April 2012 as an administrator apprentice earning £170 a week, I get a level 2 NVQ in business administration from this where I literally just complete coursework in my spare time to achieve it.

I enjoy my job, I have learnt a lot, have a lot of responsibilities and even do some accounting and PA related roles in this job, I also love the people I work with. Honestly, administration qualification was a complete waste of my time, the coursework is far to easy, I am not learning anything from it and in general I feel that it is not benefiting me in anyway, in fact it is preventing me from earning a decent wage.

Now the predicament I have is that I never really wanted to do administration, I want to get into accounting, but unfortunately when I was applying for jobs there were no accounting apprenticeships available. Plus to get into full time accounting jobs you need either previous office experience or an accounting qualification, of which I have neither.

I recently saw an apprenticeship for a Financial Analyst which pays £13k a year, pays for the accounting qualification, lets me have a day release to go to college and also provides me with the exact sort of experience I need and desperately want to get into my desired role. I got through the initial selection stage, was invited to complete exams for this job (a maths and verbal reasoning exam, which I passed) and have now been invited to an interview. At this point I am panicking a bit on what to do.

Do I admit in the interview I am currently on another apprenticeship? that would surely look bad, but will the government fund me for another apprenticeship if I leave this one? if they do not and I am offered the job then my new employers will find out that I left a previous apprenticeship.

I feel extremely guilty for leaving a job so early, especially as my current employer has paid half of the qualification due to my age, but I know I will be deeply regretting it if I do not take this opportunity to get experience as a financial analyst gaining the qualification that I really want.

Best approach is to be honest and tell them.

And don't feel guilty about changing jobs if you get the opportunity. At the end of the day, you have to do what is best for yourself and your future.
If you went into Accountancy not having a degree wouldn't hold you back because the most important thing is having an ACA or ACCA or CIMA professional qualification.

    Good luck with the interview
