Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for GeorgiaWell, at least they've already lived under a sham parliament and government by an unnacountable politburo, so they wouldn't be too confused by the EU parliament and commission.(Original post by tehFrance)
Georgia as in former Soviet Republic Georgia? no. This will create the biggest **** storm since Iraq. -
Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for GeorgiaAll new members are required to eventually use the euro. Only the UK (MHoC) and Denmark have opt outs from joining the euro.(Original post by Lipvig)
Will they be required to use the Euro? -
Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for GeorgiaThe EU would not benefit at all... not with Russia breathing down our backs and think of the extra money going to Georgia to fund god knows what.(Original post by thunder_chunky)
How would the EU benefit from Georgia's membership? -
Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for GeorgiaSo with the EU funding Georgia it could cause tension between the EU and Russia?(Original post by tehFrance)

Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for GeorgiaYes, Russian's don't like the idea of EU enlargement as it threatens their national security, especially when it is on their border in regards to Georgia they are harbouring Chechen terrorists.(Original post by thunder_chunky)
So with the EU funding Georgia it could cause tension between the EU and Russia? -
Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for Georgia
If Georgia within can guarantee that it has met with all constitutional stipulations (human rights ect..) then i will happily vote Aye.
With that said the fact that the treaty contains no such information and the fact that it will be an enlargement of the EU/Russia border i will for the moment abstain. -
Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for Georgia
The EU is a soft power and Enlargement is part of it. The EU offers democratic consolidation and opening up markets. The previous enlargement that took place in 2004 and the ones back in the 1980s was to consolidate Democracy ion those States.
The RL Enlargement process is long and complicated and I cannot put into words to explain it. The Copenhagen Criteria is used./
The long blurb at the top is my doing, I used from the Croatia Accession Treaty and modified itLast edited by Morgsie; 25-07-2012 at 14:54. -
Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for GeorgiaIt helps that the accession countries in 2004 and next year are actually in Europe. The notion of the EU expanding beyond the boundaries of the European continent is, at least for me, a bit of a farce. Iceland is a European nation; Georgia is not.(Original post by Morgsie)

Re: T08 - Treaty of Ascension for GeorgiaI am giving the context and saying it is a long process IRL, I am not getting involved regarding Georgia (Impartial because of the hats I wear). You are right to express your concern though(Original post by obi_adorno_kenobi)
