Islam life. Following only the pillars?
Just a simple question to Muslim brothers and sisters, if someone only followed the five pillars of Islam, would you label them as a Muslim or not?

There are another "six pillars of faith" that you also need to believe in. Belief in Allah, belief in the angels, belief in the prophets, belief in the revealed books, belief in the day of judgement, belief in divine predestination. The five combined with these six make you a Muslim in the eyes of the typical Muslim.

Interesting. By the pillar of the "revealed books", would you say that includes all of the content of the books? Some of the areas, I find are quite dated, and ones that I don't personally believe in. However, I don't want that to deter me from being a Muslim.

You must believe that the Torah, the Gospels, and the Qu'ran were all revealed by Allah. You must then also believe that both the torah and the gospels have been corrupted and that the Qu'ran is the last uncorrupted testament of the creator of the universe. You must accept all parts of the Qu'ran to be the inerrant word of God.

Since God is a human creation I'd say the typical Muslim is the judge. Err, actually, scratch that.... the typical Muslim doesn't think for his/herself so probably the establishment ulema will be the judge.

Yes they'd still be one, just not a very good one but we're not to judge.

what does hijab involve for women in Islam specifically?

The scholars have been also enlightened by the hadith that is reported by Imam Bukhari and Muslim that a man from the Najd region came and questioned the prophet (S.A.W.) about Islam. The prophet responded: "five prayers every day and night." The Bedouin asked, "Am I obliged to perform any other prayer?" The prophet (S.A.W.) replied, "No, except if you want to volunteer." Then, the prophet (S.A.W.) continued, "and fasting the month of Ramadan" The Bedouin asked, "am I obliged to fast any more?" The prophet (S.A.W.) replied: "No, except if you want to volunteer", the prophet (S.A.W.) continued: "and paying zakah" The Bedouin then questioned, "Am I obliged to pay any other zakah?", the prophet (S.A.W.) replied: "No, except if you want to volunteer" The man walked away and said, "By Allah, I will do no more nor less." The prophet (S.A.W.) said: "The Bedouin has succeeded if he is truthful."

    ----taken from http://islam1.org/khutub/Oblig_over_Recommended.htm

But my understanding of this is that you'd be successful if you were completely encapsulated from other sin- which doesn't really apply to us.
