Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"Looks like the gospel writers misunderstood the prophets of old and claimed that Mary was a "virgin" instead of simply a "young woman", and Muhammad inherited the misunderstanding into Islam when he plagiarized earlier Christian teachings. What is your response to this, Christians/Muslims?According to Tim Callahan in his book Bible Prophecy: Failure or Fulfillment? (cf. pp. 115-16), the Hebrew word almah, "meaning a young woman of marriageable age, was translated into Greek in the Septuagint as parthenos or 'virgin.' Had the Hebrew meant to say virgin it would have used bethulah, which means specifically a virgin."
Also, Christians, how could Mary have been a virgin when the gospels clearly refer to Jesus having siblings? -

Re: Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"Considering the jealous nature of the Abrahamic God, I seriously doubt he'd let a man have sexual relations with Mary after he impregnated her himself(Original post by TenOfThem)

Re: Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"Not where I live...(Original post by Martyn*)
A young woman could be a virgin woman though. -
Re: Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"We aren't fond of the op because his points are consistently rubbish. No exception here.(Original post by Politricks)

Re: Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"If you don't agree with his point, then explain why you believe that it's wrong, rather than dismissing it with petty ad hominem point scoring.(Original post by NuckingFut)

Re: Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"
Question to anyone who worships Jesus/believes in the conception of Mary as put forth by the Bible?
How am I meant to believe that Mary, had a child, without having sex, which is the only way she could have had a child?
And no, 'have faith', 'it says so in the Bible', 'Because God did it' is not a good argument. -
Re: Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"
Someone told me that virgin also meant a 'young woman who slept with more than 1 man' and that it was mistranslated, but i think they were joking... However she was Christian... This ruined Sunday school for me, I am now agnostic/atheist.
EDIT: I was quite young, i stopped Sunday school when i was like 10 hahaLast edited by RachelSophia; 25-07-2012 at 21:52. -
Re: Whoops! They meant "young woman" and not "virgin"Who cares what they meant, if she existed and had a son then she wasn't a virgin, end of story.(Original post by ExMuslim)
