Ebay - Broken item.
Quick background info: I sold a glass vase on Ebay. Sent by courier which insured the item for loss but not damage. It arrived and was signed for. Two weeks later I am told that the vase was broken in transit and the buyer wants a refund.
Am I obliged to give a refund? Why did it take two weeks to look at the item? -
Re: Ebay - Broken item.Person who signed the package is the person who wrote the email.(Original post by cfizzle)
http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/When-Items...00000003212587 This might help. As for the 2 weeks thing, you never know, someone could have accepted it on their behalf whilst they were on holiday

Re: Ebay - Broken item.
I am not sure. I suspect that Ebay will come on the side of the customer because if falls within the window when they can complain and Ebay are terrible with the sellers.
On the other hand, they have signed for it and they are meant to check if it is broken or not on arrival and 2 weeks is a long time.
I would check with Ebay. They have 24 hours lines. -
Re: Ebay - Broken item. They said they will return and they've sent pictures of the broken vase but this doesn't mean skwat. They could have broken it accidentally and now trying to cut their losses.(Original post by Glow in the dark)
Two weeks later? I'd be suspicious. Ask them why it's taken them 2 weeks for them to get into contact firstly.
Have they opened a case? Are they wanting to return the item to you then you give them the refund, or just a straight refund? -
Re: Ebay - Broken item.I know, I've had numerous people try to scam me e.g saying they didn't receive the item, so I went detective / retrieved their email and added them on a random facebook I made, then saw them bloody wearing it. Complained to paypal and got the money back mind. That's what's made me wary.(Original post by TheCount.)

Anyhow, I would hold off from giving them a refund to be honest, did they directly say why it's taken them 2 weeks to contact you?
Basically, they have 45 days to open a case which would have to resolve together. I would try to talk it out of them and ask why it's taken 2 weeks etc, if they carry on and open a case demanding a refund, offer a partial refund instead and see what they say. But for now don't give anything. And of course if they have already left positive feedback then you don't have to, plus they'd be lying clearly but I'm pretty sure they haven't judging by the replies you've made.Last edited by Glow in the dark; 25-07-2012 at 02:52. -
Re: Ebay - Broken item.Interesting question, generally speaking i believe youre liable if the item is broken in transit especially if you didnt have it insured although since the buyer took so long to get back to you id be rather suspicious...(Original post by TheCount.)

Re: Ebay - Broken item.If you did refund him you would be liable for P&P charges rendered as well im afriad.(Original post by TheCount.)
If I had to give a refund, would I have to refund the full amount i.e. price paid for the item and the delivery cost?
