How can I persuade my school to let me retake my AS History modules?
    Hi everyone

I have just done AS History, and struggled quite a bit with it tbh. However, now that we have started the A2 course, I have found a method that is very effective, and has already resulted in my highest ever essay mark. I am probably going to get a C at best for AS History, but want to aim for a B or possibly even an A in A2 History. Of course, the C will pull this down a lot. Therefore, I would like ot retake both my AS modules in Jan, in an attempt to improve the overall grade.

However - my school has introduced a new policy that bans all retakes of AS modules. I think this is quite harsh, and after having talked with people who have retaken, good results are still possible. Therefore, what can I do or say that will possibly make them change their stance? I could pay the fee myself?

I have really started to enjoy History recently - the technique required for better grades has only just started to 'click' - so can anyone give any advice regarding beign allowed to retake?

    Thanks a lot!

Wait until you actually get your results - you may have done better than you think!

I don't know if sixth forms can ban you from retaking AS modules. I'd get intouch with the JCQ or the exam boards.

    http://www.jcq.org.uk/contact/

You enter yourself and pay for it yourself, so I don't see how they can. Although mine put a limit on how many you can do, unless there's special circumstances, but that was to stop you have a stoopid exam timetable and being overloaded.

Even if you do ok in the end and don't do any retakes, by your school not allowing them, they could be stopping people from getting the grades they need to get into uni. So I'd get intouch with them. Seeing as it's a whole 6th form matter I'd talk to JCQ, unless your 6th form only uses one exam board.

The exam was poor and I have been consistently getting Cs! Thanks for the reply though!

You should be able to if you are going to pay for them yourself ... it has no impact on the school if you do these so they gain nothing by banning them

    NOTE

If you are the only person taking the module in January they can charge you additional admin fees including the cost of invigilators
