How many of you applicants/medics don't have all A's
I know there's the am I good enough thread but how many of you are applying for medicine or are in the process of it without like 100% A/A*? I'm just wondering as although I see a lot of people who say a couple of B's and C's is perfectly acceptable and it's about the full package etc. but I've yet to find anyone who fits in this criteria.
So, comments please and don't neg me if I've somehow offended you as I can't see why this would tbh
And this is about GCSEs btwLast edited by dinrah04; 25-07-2012 at 21:09. -
Re: How many of you applicants/medics don't have all A'sGCSE's sorry, haha should've made myself clear.(Original post by Steerforth)
Are you talking GCSE's, AS or A levels? -
Re: How many of you applicants/medics don't have all A'sDid you get anything like B's or C's? This gives me a lot of hope as I often see people on here being depressed about only having 5A*/7A. Although I assume the average tsrian isn't the average med applicant.(Original post by Steerforth)
I only had 3A* at GCSE. It limit my choices to a certain extent, but if you apply smart then it shouldn't be a problem. -
Re: How many of you applicants/medics don't have all A'sProbably the first option, I'd say.(Original post by andydemba)
I'm in Scotland and I have all top-grades in my exams, although I don't know how that translates into your poll. -

Have a read of this page http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki...cants_Profiles to get an idea of what grades successful and unsuccessful applicants had.

Re: How many of you applicants/medics don't have all A'sI was under the impression I was quite the academic until I came here, I honestly thought the whole straight A's/A* thing was incredibly rare.(Original post by airdoc)

Re: How many of you applicants/medics don't have all A's
the highest grades in my girls high school was 8A* and 2A, and in the boys school it was 9A* and 1A. apart from them, id say the grades were pretty much spread out between the students, but with the averages tending towards C/D.
i do think that getting straight A and A* is pretty rare. we only had 12 out of 250 students, and most of them had the majority A with one or two A*. -
Re: How many of you applicants/medics don't have all A's
know someone who got into medicine at keele with only 1 A*'s , a few A's, some B's and C's. You don't really need all A/A* to get in, as GCSE's arent the only factor they consider. It is also about choosing universities that suit your application. For example, don't apply to oxford if you have a low percentage of A*'s, don't apply to Cardiff if you dont have 6A*'s, dont apply to Birmingham if you don't have at least 8A*'s etc. (but I think they got rid of the requirement, I maybe wrong).
There is the BMAT,UKCAT, interview performance, AS-levels, A2 predictions, personal statement, teacher reference, Work experience, Personality (in my opinion), voluntary work, extra curriculars etc. that universities take into consideration. If you apply to the right uni's that do not rely on GCSE's too much, they shouldn't reject you on the basis on your GCSE grades. (unless they are D grades or below, as many have a requirement of at least a C grade in Maths/English). This is why we see applicants with 11A*'s get rejected, but applicants with no A*'s get accpeted by the same medical school. Your qualities may attract one uni but not another (a typical example is Cambridge and Edinburgh) good luck
