I hit my head hard against a the sharp bottom cornor of a kitchen cupboard, after I bent down to pick something up then accidentally quickly stood up and bashed my head. I have a small lump now on the top of my head, and within a minute of bashing my head, I felt like I was about to have a nose bleed, so I went to the bathroom, but the fluid which came out of nose was slightly yellowy. It was definetly not snot as it was very watery. This was about 10 minutes ago and my nose has stopped leaking, but I'm worried. Has my brain leaked? Do I have brain damage? Should I call a doctor, or just go to sleep?

If it was me I'd probably stay awake for an hour or so before heading off to bed just to be safe. Just in case you have any headaches or any sort of blurred vision

I am the OP and it is truthful, why would I make this up?

I probably should see a doctor but I'm not sure I can be bothered. Its the middle of the night and my parents are on holiday and I don't currently have car insurance to drive myself to the hospital.

I think if it were me I would get it checked out ASAP, even just for peace of mind. It doesn't sound too healthy whatever it is although it may just be nothing.

Please go get this seen OP! That doesn't sound good at all. If you ever have any concerns after a head injury you should always get it checked out. Better safe than sorry! Seriously OP- go and get this checked out asap.

Well if it is possible for CSF to leak out your nose then bother yourself.

Sorting something in the middle of the night has to be marginally better than a massive brain hemorrhage when you're alone.

Because it's quite unusual. If you couldn't be bothered to see a doctor then don't ask anyone because it's the best advice we can give. Nobody here is going to have a clue what is wrong with you or be able to help.

In all serious op it's probably just a bit of phlegm/spit or just general throat and nasal fluid being thrown up when you hit your head. Probably because you breathed out quickly when it happened. Honestly a little bump on the head is highly unlikely to give you brain damage. If that was the case, all the years I've boxed, played contact sports and fell off my bike at high speed will have killed me a long time ago.

Most likely this is fluid from your sinuses that drained when you hit your head.
It happens. CSF leak tends to be clear not yellow so wouldn't worry too much.

Oh I hate when I get a injury like that its hurts so much. I was on the phone once leaning on the counter when I hung up and I stood up straight .I bashed my head off the cupboard door. My mother didn't tell me she opened it I ddin't notice. I felt the pain straight away though

I never had any yellow fluid come out though. I'm not a doctor, I've never heard of anything like this before. Its 00:25 unless you go to the A&E you won't get seen until the morning like after 9am. You seem to be alert though I mean you were able to start a thread. Maybe stay awake for a bit see how you feel. If you live with someone maybe just ask them to watch you if possible. If you still feel bad or you get worse than by all means get checked out. I'm sure when you were a kid you hurt yourself, your skull can tolerate alot. I know when I was a kid my brother and I would have new collections of injuries from playing outside nearly every week or 2. You should be ok. Maybe get some ice or frozen peas for the lump though.

I rang up my surgery which automatically diverted my call to the out-of-hours medical help thing and the guy said he recommends sending an ambulance, but I said I really didn't think that was necessary since I'm no longer in any significant pain and the fluid has stopped leaking, but a doctor is apparently going to ring me within the next 20 minutes.

Well it's better to be safe than sorry, but I still think it is unlikely a bump on the head will give you csf leakage.

Things like this can be from cysts bursting in the sinuses among other things, for which it's recommended that you have a CT scan.

Knowing this I would have taken a taxi to A&E (perhaps not an ambulance), and I would have made sure that I was seen tonight.

Your choice OP, but make sure you see a doctor and some point soon.

Well the doctor rang and had a very short conversation with me, in which I explained the situation and then he was basically like "yeah... there's nothing to worry about. If it gets worse call casualty. Bye bye."

So I guess I can just go to sleep.
