After my degree I want to apply for a primary teaching PGCE. I'm not interested in Early Years teaching, but would experience in a nursery school (actually German kindergarten so ages 2-6) still be useful?

It wouldn't hurt, but you would benefit more from gaining experience with the age range you do want to work with.

It would be if they were doing anything about phonics (though that is pretty early). Phonics is massive at the moment, so get experience with that, and that will massively help you out.

Yes but I would focus on the work you did with the 4-6 age range and then definitely get more experience with older children.

Although, you could bring in child development from this, knowing how children develop, what they have to learn before they go to school and how all children develop at different rates and how this effects teaching and learning because.....ect. You're kind of acknowledging that children already have a wide variety of knowledge and your teaching starts from what they already know. There is loads of ways you could go with it if your experience with older children is limited.

Yes, I will definitely get experience with older children later on (this is a part-time job alongside studying - just in 1st year of uni now), so I think it's somewhere decent to start and could help me into other roles with older children.
