Thinking of Transfering to University of Southampton
Hi there, as in the thread title I am considering transferring for my second year. Whilst this is currently hypothetical, as I don't know if they'll have me yet, I would like to hear current students opinions about whether I would still be able to make friends and integrate into the student community, or whether most groups are formed in first year. I have lots of friends at my current uni but I am not at all happy here. I will be joining lots of societies etc, and am quite an outgoing person so will always make the effort to meet people and make friends. However I know some universities (my own for example) can be very cliquey and I dont want to move to one that is just as bad as mine.
Has anybody transferred universities in second year and have any experiences/recommendations?
Also what is the nightlife like in Southampton?
Thanks so much, I dont want to make the wrong decision xx -
Re: Thinking of Transfering to University of Southampton
Well imo first year is the great friend making period, second year is typically less carefree since the marks start counting at most places. I only had people joining my course in the final year and though it wasn't unfriendly, I feel like I hardly met them really.

Re: Thinking of Transfering to University of SouthamptonThanks for your post. Thats what Im a bit worried about, I dont want to join and end up isolated cause everyone is in their own clique... I dont like my uni Im at now, but at least I have friends here(Original post by Joinedup)

Re: Thinking of Transfering to University of Southampton
I found a lot of friendship groups changed in second year - people moved in with people they got along with immediately - nothing like sharing a toilet cleaning schedule to make you start to resent people you liked initially.
Of course not everyone grows to hate the people they move in with but enough groups change and move over the second year that it's possible to find new friends. Plus although things get more intense study wise that sometimes means you get closer to the students on your course (group work, field trips - even just the people who always sit behind you in lectures and chew with their mouths open). -
Hello, I am in the exact same position, I am coming from a very clicky uni and I am worried I won't meet/find people to live with that are fun and sociable that don't already have a close group, I won't know a soul?! I am leaving because i hared my course. Hah what's your name on fb or something and where did you go to uni before? Don't worry I feel your pain I'm sure there are a few in a similar position! X
