But she needs a job while she's at college. I'm not telling her to work in retail for her whole life.

It's the completely insulting nature in which you've responded to each of the posters, and not to mention you throwing around some pretty insulting accusations about the posters.

If she chooses to go to college then yes she may need a job to support herself but on the other hand their are charities which will sponsor you to do the Access Course / FE in certain circumstances.

Did I tell her to work in retail for the rest of her life? No I didn't. But most students have part time jobs. I suggested retail as being the most appropriate.

No, I just think you are completely unable to take criticism, and won't listen to anyone unless they are consoling you saying how you're doing such a great job.

I SPECIFICALLY SAID it wasn't about you personally.
I SPECIFICALLY SAID that it has nothing to do with the benefits.
I SPECIFICALLY SAID that I believe you are genuinely trying to find a job.

And you have the AUDACITY to call me judgmental...
Who says I'm doing a great job, or "consoling" me? You might notice that I'm responding positively to people with friendly, relevant advice that they manage to type out without slipping in a "oh people that try 'really really hard' don't try at all"! That's not a positive message to me at all and neither does it help with the situation at hand.

    You're quite welcome, sweetheart.

P.S. Could you let your sister know Alan Sugar and Richard Branson are on the phone for her. They saw her that one time in Boots and were desperate to hire her as well, unfortunately silly old Richie slipped on a half eaten chicken pesto flatbread and by the time he'd recovered she was gone! I've tried telling them she's happy with her 25% discount but they simply will not take no for an answer!

P.P.S Be sure to reply to that email Bill Gates sent you.

    Ciao, darling!

I never said you did, I just said you've been highly insulting to some of these posters in this thread and you've made insulting comments.

I think Retail is the worst thing you can ever go into I mean I went into Admin and I get better job offers with more money then if I applied for a retail job.

Once again, most students studying at L3 are supported by their family because they are still minors

You called me a sponge and then proceeded to make several comments about a lot of things you thought you knew all about but in fact got wrong. In other words, your presence isn't needed here.

I'm saying retail is the best for low experience, plenty of jobs, they like young faces.

It's a job, to make money. Not a lifetime career. If you're too stuck up to think retail is an appropriate job for a student, then I pity you.

If you’re on JSA or ESA you can get the Job Centre Plus Travel Discount Card, which gives you half price train travel anywhere in the country. You can also get discounts on buses although how much depends on the area I believe. I pay 30p when others pay £2.

That's interesting to know, I've never been informed of this and have always paid full price to get to interviews etc.

Perhaps this is a recent development ... I was only quoting my husband's experience which is now 6 or so years out of date

And, having looked ... this appears to be a New Deal thing so he would not have been able to get one anyway

Haha, I did not say retail was not an appropriate job for a student and don't pity me I'm not half as stuck up and ignorant as yourself.

Just because there are plenty of jobs doesn't mean it's EASY to get a job, since you're 14 I'm going to assume that you don't know that most jobs ask for previous experience, most jobs ask for CRB checks which aren't covered by the employer and therefore the applicant must pay for it and that's £70 gone from your monthly allowance for food and bills. What about bar work where you need experience? You can't gain that through retail work??

Retail work is hardly easy to come by hence why I suggested office admin as you can work weekends and evenings and you get paid better then in retail.

Suggesting ways to improve your employability certainly does help with the situation at hand (unless you are no longer interested in getting a job?).

I do see how you can get so angry now though, what with you fabricating your own version of events. You know full well I've never said anything of the sort that you "aren't trying at all" - and you'll be glad to hear I'm sick of your ridiculous whining now so won't be replying again...

Re: Giving up JSA for college, how can I support myself?
I was in your situation a few years back. I was looking for a job for just under a year and being on JSA was really unbearable, it really does bring you down. I didn't apply to college in time but I was lucky in the fact I managed to eventually get a part time job and then applied for a course with ongoing enrollment. I really cannot comprehend going to college full time and having no money!

Have a read through this see if it helps at all! I think the best think you can do is speak to a JSA advisor because they will know what help you can get.

You really don't understand, do you? I'm not "fabricating", as I certainly did not imagine the insulting comments you made. It's probably that you don't have sufficient enough people skills to understand what comes out of your mouth is offensive and can make people feel like sh*t. Goodbye, along with numpty and his magical Boots job offers, with you gone you're one less person to bring me down today. Bye!

Yes. Another poster suggested people on JSA got no discount on rail fares.
